So... funny things about Les Pauls from a Stratman.

Pierre;2048738It's mostly wrist position when standing up due to the thicker body and edges said:
You've obvioulsy developed some bad habits playing Strats, a common aliment. Those of us accustomed to playing Gibson-style guitars on a regular basis don't have these effeminate problems. The solution is to limit yourself to grown-up guitars (mahogany, angled neck, angled headstock, 3x3 tuners, no flimsy bolt-on nonsense, and a volume and tone for each PU); and for God's sake, put the kiddy ones back in the closet where they belong. I know this is 'tough love', but you'll be thanking us after this is all over.

Re: So... funny things about Les Pauls from a Stratman.

I don't share Blueman's disdain for Fender's designs (at all) but the angled neck on a Les Paul is one of the things I really like about it. Even with the limited upper fret accress that the single cutaway provides, I find it a little easier to go tweedly-tweedly on an LP than on a Fender.

Re: So... funny things about Les Pauls from a Stratman.

I find it easier to go higher up on the Strat for some reason.
That neck on the LP is a real baseball bat too, I never played something this thick before.

As a Strat player you can't go in and expect to like one of the thicker Gibson necks.

Yes, we know ... please stop telling us.

If you're going to "quote" me, don't make up stuff I never said (remind me to contact my lawyer about a potential libel suit).

There is nothing irrational about my "dislike" for Fenders. Many Strat & Tele players openly hate Gibson designs, and feel compelled to tell the world; that seems to be accepted in polite society. I've read some pretty idiotic posts about guys having wet dreams about their Strats. God forbid anybody say anything to burst their little bubbles. This is reverse discrimination! Like his competitors in the 1950's, I also don't like the things Leo created in his attempt to lower the production costs of his guitars. I'm a traditionalist, so shoot me. The Tele in particular was greeted as a total hack job at the time by the bewildered public, until country twangers gradually took to it.

As for the "obnoxious" part you made up (I'm usually pretty civil about things); it would only seem that way to people who have problems believing that someone can have a different opinion than them.

Re: So... funny things about Les Pauls from a Stratman.

i am a skinny guy too, and while i like both my LP and the strats, this is one of hte key differences. the strat has those body contours, and the strat neck is different enough, that the strat is much easier to play when its higher up.

the LP is much nicer to play low slung and since that gives me a different hand grip, i play differently.

as for playing a LP sitting down, i didn't think that was legal in the US?

While I know a lot of this post is tongue-in-cheek, you have to admit that you have a tendency to present the majority of your opinions on this matter as incontrovertible fact. You can't be too offended or surprised by people balking at that a bit.

And RD, even though he "quoted" you, wasn't really putting words in your mouth or misrepresenting you, per se, was he? Anyone could always scroll up a bit and read your orginal post.

So let's all calm down now.. It's fun to hassle Pierre about his femininity - I know - before I saw all the posts in this thread I was going to say something about him lowering his strap being OK, but to be careful not to let the LP swing and smack into his sensitive vagina parts because that could result in even more soreness.

Of course now it's become a bit of a pile-on, and there's no sport in it. ;)

But..my two main guitars are a vintage-style Tele and an R8 LP Jr. I challenge anyone to plug in either and tell me they aren't both "men's guitars." :D

Re: So... funny things about Les Pauls from a Stratman.

Wait, is Blueman serious? I always assumed he was just trolling.

Unless he's actually totally off his nut insane.

There's no way a rational person could post the way he does and not just be trying to rile people up. The options have to be:

1) Asshat for the fun of asshattery
2) OMGcrazy

...right?

We're attempting a plea of reason before we make that judgment, hmm?

Roll with me.

Re: So... funny things about Les Pauls from a Stratman.

I always thought BlueMan is just a sarcastic guy who doesn't use smilies to let us know when he's kidding.

I mean, it makes sense. If you're a men's man, the type of guy who uses a Les Paul and not a Strat you're too much of a man to use something that looks like this: ;) or: :cool2: and God forbid: :)

If you are a men's man and you play a Les Paul you should also be too cool to be worked up about other people liking a Strat.

Edit:
I forgot the: ;)
I love my Strat.

Re: So... funny things about Les Pauls from a Stratman.

Huh?

I never thought A Les Paul to be a "man's guitar".
After all it IS Madonna's guitar of choice :D

Seriously, my only gripes with LPs are the lack of a rib contour (and I live outside the US where playing a LP sitting is perfectly legal ;)) and the unnecessarily big heel that hinders upper fret access (and don't tell me that real men don't like shredding on a LP!)
(And before someone mentions Slash let me remind you that maybe there are "real men" that aren't as big as Slash and/or don't have as big hands/long fingers as him that would still like to shred on a LP...)

Ok, be serious for a minute ... have you been playing a really big joke on all of us this entire time?

If so, very nicely done.

As a matter of fact I love it :D I never said anything bad about it heheh. It's bigger than the Gibsons 60s profile by quite a bit. But again on Gibbos I always prefered the 50s.

And I always view the Strat, or rather the Tele, as being the Man's Guitar. LPs always struck me as slightly wimpy and too easy to get good tones out of it :D

As for my feminity, well it's true it's fun, but those who have my facebook can see I have some compelling arguments on most of my pictures :D

You wouldn't happen to be talking about that gorgeous blonde creature beside you on a photo you posted not too long ago now would you? :cool2:

Re: So... funny things about Les Pauls from a Stratman.

I'll be honest I got no idea who that might be... which tells you I know a lot of gorgeous creatures :laugh2:

...right?

Blueman contributes an awful lot to this place, mostly in the pickup lounge. He's certainly no asshat.
So he doesn't like Fenders? Big deal.

Funny how people get "riled up" so easy.

or 3), both. Alright, so I do prod a bit on occasion, just to see who is comfortable with their beliefs and thought them through, and those who just follow the crowd. I respect anyone who can justify what they do, and are confident enough to listen to other viewpoints. If you get defensive, I just may poke a second time. Actually I don't care who plays Strats. If you can make them sound good, I admire you.

But guys, I get enough heat and death threats from the Fender whiners that I don't need someone else riling them up with ficticious quotes. Geez.
