So how's this for my first Custom order?

There could be a few things working against you. It seems like you are saturating your amp too much, which makes whatever you change on the guitar so small it doesn't matter.
I don't agree.

The fault to that logic is that I'm noticing the differences between all the pickups I've tried on the Strat clear as day, and that's exactly what's not making me like the Strat compared to the Les Paul.

But I appreciate the suggestion on the Super Distortion. Thinking about it, a 13-ish K double thick Ceramic magnet pickup is kinda what I went for. :)

So sorry I let this thread go.

It seems to em now that you have the following options in the Distortion class

Regular Distortion
Distortion with less highs (Black winter)
Distortion with less mids (Exciter)

Haven't heard of of the Exciter before. I liked the clip though. I think could have changed your mind to get the EXCITER!

One thing I noticed with my Strats is that pickup changes are very obvious. I went between a Perpetual Burn, Custom Custom and now a Custom/59 Hybrid in my Warmoth build and the differences were clear as day. What I was leaning at was more to do with your gain structure covering that up but seems like that is not the case. So you are experiencing what one would expect with a Strat.

What I find interesting with the Nazgul vs. the SuperD is the EQ charts are totally opposite one another even though they are wound to the same DC resistance and have a double-thick ceramic magnet. Could be the baseplate (brass on the SuperD vs. nickel on the Nazgul), could be the poles (hex on the SuperD vs. filister/slug on the Nazgul), could be the winding pattern. Curious what your take on the Nazgul is with different gain level on the amp.

You can't compare SD and DiMarzio tone charts. In fact, you can't even compare SD's own tone chart to itself!

The Nazgul is a bit more aggressive than a SuperD, but it sounds like a good "next step" for what Rex is after

Also, if I was going for a "Super D" sound at this point, I'd grab one of those new USA-made (by Seymour Duncan) Mighty Mites! (LINK)
