So hypothetically speaking, if you were to get a new fuzz pedal...

Re: So hypothetically speaking, if you were to get a new fuzz pedal...

Yeah, it's very much a muff. As is the Pharoah, but it's like a versatile muff. I think if you want another fuzz you should look for something that's not a muff derivative at all. A Tonebender-ish fuzz would be a great place to start.

Re: So hypothetically speaking, if you were to get a new fuzz pedal...

I was looking at one of those $300 tonebender reissues last night and almost bought it.

Even if its muffy I'm not opposed to the swollen pickle.

You'd be the guy to know, of course.

Re: So hypothetically speaking, if you were to get a new fuzz pedal...

Was it per chance the Keeley Black Glass British? If so, be glad you didn't because for that price there are actually people using NOS transistors (apparently the Keeley ones aren't.) If you're interested in TB fuzzes I can give you a few places to start that (should hopefully) be well under $300.

Re: So hypothetically speaking, if you were to get a new fuzz pedal...

When I start building I can pop one out for ya. TBs are what I like, and I have some plans for em. Nothing pretty on the inside for sure.

Re: So hypothetically speaking, if you were to get a new fuzz pedal...

My first fuzz (not counting a really badly modded NYC Big Muff) was a Lovepedal Silicon Fuzzmaster. I wish I had it now that I know how to use fuzz more. Take a look, they're super versatile for being a three knob fuzz, and PGS Andy's demo video of it is extremely accurate as far as demonstrating what it actually sounds like.

Swollen Pickle is cool, I actually like the original better than the mkII. I think the extra controls make it more difficult to dial in.

Re: So hypothetically speaking, if you were to get a new fuzz pedal...

Yeah, a seven knob fuzz (counting the trimmers on the inside) is a lot.

Nah. I never really got into keeley stuff. Not a demerit to them, just never found anything I really cared for.

The fuzz face is my be all end all fuzz pedal. It did everything my whore of an ex Big Muff Pi said she'd do but never did.

Re: So hypothetically speaking, if you were to get a new fuzz pedal...

this is how my pharaoh sounds to me when I plug it into my Orange Thunderverb 50:

its a more modern sounding fuzz that blends in well with amp distortion. GREAT for heavy doom riffage! its sooooo versatile that High on fire used it all over their new album and many others followed :headbang:

here is how HOF sounds using the Pharaoh:

Re: So hypothetically speaking, if you were to get a new fuzz pedal...

My Black Arts Coven is perfection. It is mercilessly kicking pedals off my board and out of my collection. Plus Mark is a cool guy and he needs beer money.

Black Cat Super Fuzz.

Re: So hypothetically speaking, if you were to get a new fuzz pedal...

I LOVE my Earthquaker Hoof Fuzz. Love it. I sleep next to it time to time.

Re: So hypothetically speaking, if you were to get a new fuzz pedal...

I've been looking at the Voodoo Lab Superfuzz lately.

Fuzzes are hard to choose because you have to pair them with the right amp.

My Ultimate Octave's fuzz section sounded great with my Rectoverb, Legacy, and Bogner, and not very good with my Dual Rec. It's OK with the OD100.

The Superfuzz seems to sound good in a variety of situations. I wish VL made a pedal that was that and the Proctavia in one box.

hi B2D,
you say certain fuzz pedals with certain amps, what fuzz pedals would go with a vox ac15 ?????

thanks, bluesfloyd,

What sound are you trying to achieve? Fuzz flavors vary so wildly that its not an easy thing to recommend. I know a fuzz face will sound awesome for retro 60's goodness and a Black arts ritual will take you from QoTSA to Sleep.
