:) :) :) :) :) :)

Picked up this '74 SG Special for an absolute bargain. It's in ridiculous condition for something this age - frets aren't even significantly worn. I've never been one for SGs in the past but I'm just loving this one.

Looks like mini humbuckers but in black covers rather than chrome. The mounting surrounds are original. I'm not sure that the bridge and machineheads are. I would have expected the wide travel "harmonica" bridge.

Re: So... I got an SG. It's kinda old.

Thanks dudes!

Bridge is original as far as I can tell - probably a mix n match parts batch before they went over completely to harmonica bridges.

The pickups are the original Gibson mini humbuckers, black plastic covers for some reason when they first started using 'em.

The nice folks at EverythingSG.com tell me it's a '74-75 SG Special - I'm sure they know their SGs! :D

Very nice. Errr... is it jsut me, or are the control placements a bit off?

Re: So... I got an SG. It's kinda old.

Nice SG Deluxe. They certainly didn't make these for long.

A lot of very odd control placement went on in those days...but I think this might be even rarer - 1 piece neck rather than 3. The body also looks 1 piece too, although that was probably common practice still in those days.

Re: So... I got an SG. It's kinda old.

Ah, I stand corrected - I looked at the back rather than the front.

Abalone inlays. I think this may have been a custom order

Yeah, I was wondering if it was the original bridge b/c they went harmonica bridges in 73 or 74, but maybe with the Specials it was different. Either way, way cool axe, congrats!! EverythingSG is a great site and there are some guys on there who really know their stuff.

Typicality I'm not a big fan of SGs, but I've got to say that looks GREAT!
