11 gauge strings are a fine gauge for Gibson scale guitars. Strung my Les Pauls for years with Ernie Ball Power Slinkys.

.........and Billy Gibbons plays 7's!! It's all what you like and get used to I guess.

ok so I got a set of 11 ernie ball power slinkys and strung up my washburn. the tension felt ok, but since I set the nut up as low as I could for 10's I have a problem with fret buzz on the first 2 frets, not real severe but more then I like, so its either back to 10's or a new nut, oh well 10's aren't that bad I guess, but on the other hand the nut I have is a cheaper one (I only paid 150.00 for the guitar brand new) so maybe a nut upgrade wouldn't be a bad thing. like to put a tusq nut in.

Try a different brand 11s. Tension varies.

either 11's or 10.5's if you find the 11's being slightly more taut

I went through a time that I only played Fender Scale. However, I just finished a Walnut Strat project with a Musikraft Gibson Scale and love it. So now I am of the mindset that it depends. :)

I went through a time where I played fender scale too. then i found a beauty with Gibson scale. few perks I found playing Gibson scale were; some stretches for chords are bit more manageable, PAF like pickups sound bit thin on fender scale IMO but sound warmer and full on Gibson scale (may be set in necks do that magic), I use .10's across all my guitars and love the extra mileage I get when I bend

I am sure set necks have some effect for sure. I play on two bolt-on neck LP's from Warmoth with PAF style pickups with plenty of warmth and fullness too though. I honestly think it has a lot more to do with the scale length being 24.75" than any other factor.

Re: so i guess i dont like 24 3/4 scale length

just wanted to give y'all an update. I replaced the nut and I am very happy with the 11's on the Gibson scale length, the strings fell great and now the guitar has a thicker sound. I m extremely pleased with how this turned out. thanks for the help guys. oh one other thing that I learned was that if you decide to give ernie ball cobalt strings a try, be prepared to make a few adjustments since the cobalts seem to have a slightly higher tension that can cause a little more neck relief. but if you ask me their worth it. I really like the cobalts. they feel a little strange at first but after a few days of playing them the wear in and feel like home. they also seem to a better life to them.
