So, I Guess This Is My Review Of The Blackouts That I Had Put In My Charvel

Ok, I have a Charvel Style 2 2H that I absolutely adore. It has become my number one guitar. I really don't even play any of my Gibsons anymore or anything like that. it came with a JB/59 combo in it. I'm not a reaal big fan of the JB, but it kind of worked in that guitar. However, I was looking for something a little different. The 59 kind of worked in there as well, but it never really did anything special for me. Let's just say that "both of the pickups worked" and that's about it. Nothing against either one, but it just wasn't me, per se.

Well, I threw a set of ABH-1'a in it. Or is it ABH1's? Regardless of the fact, here we go.

I really don't know what I was looking for, and I'm really not sure what made me want to go active. I guess it's because I have pretty much run the gamut with all of the Duncan pickup line. I know what works for me, and it seems like I have always come back to the Jazz/Jazz combo. It is just me. I don't know why, but it just is..

I think I read on here at one point that the Blackouts were somewhat based on that Jazz's. I figured "what the hell, man". I bought a set of of a member on here name glyph, I do believe....great transaction by the way.

Well, I'm not sure where I stand with the bridge pickup. I like it. Actually, I like it alot, but I am not blown away completely. I love the way I can hear every single note in my chords and such. I am a big proponent of that, and that's probably why I love the Jazz Model so much. I am all about clarity.

I really like the bridge Blackout. It is nice. It is not sterile. It is not warm. It's just kind of "there", I guess. It works for me. I don't have any complaints with it at all, really, but I am not blown away. I do like it alot though, however.

I will be back in a few minutes to finish my review. I am on my cell phone now. my computer messed up, & I had to restart it.

Re: So, I Guess This Is My Review Of The Blackouts That I Had Put In My Charvel

I'm back, yaaaaaaay!!!

ANyways, where the Blackouts shine is the freakin neck pickup. Holy Freakin Crap, man!!! I am blown away.

I have Seth Lover/Seth Lover, 59/59, Jazz/Jazz, C5/Jazz, Custom/59, Pearly Gates/Pearly Gates, Alnico II Pro/Alnico II Pro, Quarter Pounder/Quarter Pounder combos in guitars, and whatever else I can't think of at the moment. However, the neck Blackout pickup absolutely has blown me away!!!!

This thing is just fantastic. It is creamy, yet it it super glassy, and that's one thing I look for in a neck pickup. I love glassiness. I love the sound of a lipstick neck pickup in a Tele. I absolutely love and adore that sound. I also like alot of "fullness".

The Blackout neck pickup ha taken my heart. I do not think that I have ever had a pickup that has made me play guitar more in my life. Now, I'm not a big neck pickup solo guy either. Most of yall have heard my music, and the majority of my solos are with the bridge pickup.

The Blackout neck pickup makes me want to play all of my solos in the neck slot now. I can actually get nice pinch harmonics out of it. I love hitting my pinch harmonics, and most of the time I do them by accident just because it's kind of bred into my playing.

Now I don't have any problems with ceramic magnets at all. I absolutely love the Duncan Custom. However, the Blackout bridge is a tiny bit sterile, yet the Blackout neck is freakin amazing!! I wonder if the alnico 5? or whatever the neck pickup has makes me love it more. I'm wondering (since they are active) if I shoukld throw a Blackout neck model in my bride slot.???

Anyways, my buzz is starting to kick in............so.....long story short..........I am in love with the Blackout neck model. I didn't even want to put my guitar down to post this, but I did.

What you say about the BO neck position pickup is what I like about its Live Wire Classic II equivalent. All of the Gibson-ness that the majority of active pickups often lack.

Re: So, I Guess This Is My Review Of The Blackouts That I Had Put In My Charvel

It's not hard to tell at which point in that post I started smokin up......lol.

Anyways, I am in love with that Blackout neck pickup.

It's like having sex with some chick you've known for awhile. You have sex, it was absolutely amazing, but you're like...."cool, that was fun". Then, you go out the next night and pickup some chick, again. You take her home, and you do the exact same things with her that you did the night before with the other chick. However, there's just something about the second chick that you cannot get off of your mind.

You can always call up the first chick, and have another good time. That's freakin awesome. However, all you can do is think about the second chick. You think to yourself........hmmmmm, man, that second chick...we had the same good time as the first, but I just really really like her alot more. I think I'll keep on calling the second chick. I really dig her and what she does for me.

The Blackouts neck humbucker is the second chick, and I've been giving her the Shockah ever since I met her. She likes it, I enjoy playing her, and it is awesome!!

so now, why not try the other blackouts bridge models?

Re: So, I Guess This Is My Review Of The Blackouts That I Had Put In My Charvel

Blackout Neck sounds awesome in the bridge too. Try it.

Nice review! Always a better review with a buzzing reviewer, rather than buzzing pickups! lol

Re: So, I Guess This Is My Review Of The Blackouts That I Had Put In My Charvel

I love the blackouts! I read a lot of complaint with active pickups, "lifeless" etc.
But after playing the AHB1 I really don't know what they're talking about, it's very organic and fat sounding.
I struggle to find a neck pickup that sound good on a 24 fret superstrat, the AHB1 totally solve the problem.

Re: So, I Guess This Is My Review Of The Blackouts That I Had Put In My Charvel

I found pretty much the same to be true AHB-1 is great in the neck, ok in the bridge. so I tried the AHB2 & 3, plus the Gus G set. The AHB2 bridge stayed along with a Gus G set.
