So I just got a Peavey Valveking...

and I'm diggin' it!:smokin: For my price range and my needs, it fit the bill. I finally got out last weekend and bought it, traded in my Mexi Strat towards it, so this weekend I'll be posting a review and some clips. I wanna' give it some more time, see if any quirks come out, you know, avoid the whole "honeymoon" review. So far I'm diggin' the tones, we'll see this weekend...:smokin:

Let's see, I had a Crate GT1200 SS head, that did okay for metal, but the tone was garbage. After that, it was a Peavey Transtube Special 212, sounded a little better and a little louder, but again, kinda' sterile tone. Now the Valveking. For the money, it's a pretty sweet little amp. It covers a lot of tonal ground. I've got it all dialed in and I'm getting ready to record some clips and get pics up.

For several months I considered it, because the deal is amazing. But ended up with a deal of a century of my own, for 400 bucks mint condition Laney AOR Pro-Tube moded for "buzz-out-more-headroom" loud ass supersandy cranch.
May in the future I will get ValveKing and run it together with Laney ... hmm ....
(pinky nail picking teeth) Interesting to know how ValveKing handles lots of chorus infront .... ? Congrats.

They've impressed me with that amp. It's nice to see a decent sounding tube amp in a price range where more people can afford them.

Re: So I just got a Peavey Valveking...

I've had mine since march now and I love the thing. I honestly couldn't be happier.

Well, I recorded some clips last night, just some clips highlighting the Seymour Ducan actives, and then a clip to demonstrate how hi gain this sucker can sound. I gotta' get fired up on Soundclick, and I'll post a lengthy review and some clips.

Re: So I just got a Peavey Valveking...

Glad you dig that amp, even if I advised against it. Peavey rules!

Did you go with the 112 or 212?

Re: So I just got a Peavey Valveking...

I went with the 1x12. I've gotta' figure out a better way to record. All I've got is a $5 Target mic, a little voice memo thing I use to capture song ideas quickly, and the GNX1. Maybe if I run the mic into the GNX1's input and run it direct to the computer I'll be able to get something usable?

Re: So I just got a Peavey Valveking...

I'v had mine for about 5 months. I changed the all the tubes out for JJ tubes and it made a HUGE difference. It is light years better now, especially the distortion channel, which sounded too loose and buzzy before. I also had to remove the little aluminum caps from the 12ax7 tubes because they rattle when I play loud. For the price, I'd say they can't be beat right now.

Buy Acid Pro 6.0, works perfect for that kind of recording... just hear my clip I made it that way.

Re: So I just got a Peavey Valveking...

I second your choice. For new gear, that deal can't be beat. If you go second-hand, you can find something that'll work, but for something that you can make your own over the years, it sounds like you went the right way.

Congrats.

Re: So I just got a Peavey Valveking...

Alright, I've spent a solid 20 hours with the Valveking in various scenarios, volumes, styles, etc. After running tomorrow morning, I'll be sitting down to write an extensive review. : )
