and also ordered a set of their jazz replacement picks, it should arrive around next week, so does anybody have tried a pykmax?

really i ordered it because since i entered university i have been unable to play as much as i used to do, and now my galloping and speed picking doesn't feels as smooth as it used to do, after reading the pykmax forces you to a proper picking technique and you can forget about gripping and just concentrate on playing i decided to give it a try

if anyone has tried one it would be cool to hear what you think of it while i wait for mine and write here what it does for me

Re: so i ordered a pykmax

Looks like a gimmick to me. I'd never be able to use those because of the way I hold my pick (between my thumb and two fingers)

Re: so i ordered a pykmax

i switch between flat pick and fingers all the time so that wouldnt work for me either. who knows, might work great for you

Re: so i ordered a pykmax

i'm truly curious as to if it works or not, i tend to switch between grips from 3 fingers for gallop and alternate to two fingers for downpicking speedpicking and trumming so i bet it would feel weird

what really impulses me is the posibility of it being a kind of training pick and if it will yield good results on my playing, so far all the people praising the pykmax are players with arthrithis that can't make a grip on a normal pick or guitar teachers who use them for their students so they can start picking properly earlier

Re: so i ordered a pykmax

so today i recieved my pykmax, and so far my first impressions.

the plastic is definitely sturdy, there are no sharp edges that could had left from the mold, it's polished so it feels nice on the hand, overall it feels well built, except the pivot point for the pick, which feels rather flimsy even when the piece is quite thick but that feel maybe due to the springy more flexible plastic used for that piece.

it is to notice that the adult sized pykmax body ain't a one size fits all, it's barely a one size fits most, as a person with really big hands (my hands are quite big and fall near the end of the pykmax limit) would have problems fitting a pykmax, as would someone with small hands (that's why they make a "child" size).

at first is quite wierd to fit and you might not find a comfy fit at first, the picks are about the size of a jazz xl, it took me a time to fit the pykmax on my hand but once i did it felt really comfy and the whole thing pick included felt very out of the way, it still needs for you to apply a firm grip on the pick, however thanks to the molded body and the fact that it forces you to a "proper" picking position you can apply enough stengt to keep the pick firm without even noticing.

the high performance features....... to be fair i didn't feel it, at least the way they describe it on their page, my playing didn't feel faster nor more precise, however it really felt more relaxed and all the time felt that my fingers were resting.

i can really see how this resting feel might translate into easier playing on tiring situations, like a +2 hours venue with barely any rest between songs, also it feels like a great too for practicing as you could go picking for hours without even noticing.

i will post some pics tomorrow but i couldn't go to sleep without writing my first impressions of the pykmax.
