So I Picked Up One of my Dream Guitars Yesterday... for $200.

Re: So I Picked Up One of my Dream Guitars Yesterday... for $200.

Very nice, man! Enjoy! Would love to hear it through the Egnator.
We should make that happen soon.

I spent an hour playing this guitar today. Even though I've only had it for about two days now I can honestly say that I've been through enough guitars in my life to know when something is a keeper, and this is one of them. It's on par with my Music Man Y2D and my neck thru strat as one of the best guitars I've ever played. It resonates like crazy - I can hardly believe how good it sounds unplugged. It stays in tune fabulously with light trem use. Dives will make it go out of tune but I've got some nut sauce that fixed the same issue on my strat that I'm about to apply. It sounds FANTASTIC plugged in - I can't wait to jam with it. There's so much variety in the rotary switch. It's funny how most people seem to think that PRSi are a mix of Strat and Les Paul, because I'm honestly hearing more Tele than Strat. I'm going to reserve my opinion until after I jam with this guitar, but it may just be good enough that I won't be changing the pickups - at least for now.

This guitar makes me erect, and that's all a man can ask for.

Man it almost looks like the same guitar. The grain pattern is almost identical. Maybe a different angle or something but it's scary close to the image on the book cover

Wow! AMAZing deal!!! Thats a steal for an SE, but the real deal?

Re: So I Picked Up One of my Dream Guitars Yesterday... for $200.

Man, CONGRATZ on getting a DREAM guitar and at such a steel of a price !

Now if any of my dream guitars would rock up at 200 . . . i would be over the moon.

Re: So I Picked Up One of my Dream Guitars Yesterday... for $200.

Wow ! Smokin deal ! My '92 CE 24 has been my #1 for more than 20 years. Position 3 is my favourite pickup position, and one of the things I like the most about the guitar is how well the 'bleeder' circuit works on the volume pot. Even with 100% distortion on my pedal the sound cleans up very tastefully when I back off the volume. I've installed bleeders on my other guitars, but none match the PRS.
There was always that "halfway between a Strat and a Les Paul" thing, but I honestly think the bolt-on CE's have their own distinct personality. Definitely a player's guitar, and versatile as hell. Congrats !

I'm so glad that deal went as planned. I forgot to tell you in the PM's that the reason I liked that color and model was because it's been burned into my brain by that book - Totally Guitar. That's one of my favorite books. Yours looks even better in the pics, because it looks richer than the washed out pic on Totally Guitar.

I thought you'd be kicking in some extra money, but you actually got that in a straight trade for a decent amp you scored for $200! That's awesome. That is a great model, and I think the C/59 Hybrid/WLH with a reversed magnet is exactly what that guitar w/rotary knob needs. The HFS/Vintage Bass that I think came in that guitar is good, but it's not as good as the best Duncans.

Congrats. That guitar has extra mojo for being the same one that's on the cover of the best guitar book.

Lovely color. Mid-90s CE's are hard to beat. Congrats on the score!

Very good. I played a 1989 model once (cherry burst), great guitar. It had Mick Brierley pups in it.

You had the book too? That's pretty cool. I agree, it is a fantastic book and I learned quite a bit of set up tricks from that book.

I'm actually enjoying the HFS/Vintage Bass pickups quite a bit, but I'm sure I can get even better results with some Duncans. Would you happen to know if I can use a set of Duncans with the stock switch? It's wired to a PCB and it's only got three holes for pickup wires. I'm imagining that the black, white, and red would go to those with the green and bare going to ground, but I'm not sure.

And thanks again for the advice Joe, I appreciate it.

Re: So I Picked Up One of my Dream Guitars Yesterday... for $200.

Sweet. I prefer the maple they were using back then, it's similar to the maple used on Santana's first PRS- before they needed to enhance the grain tremendously

Re: So I Picked Up One of my Dream Guitars Yesterday... for $200.

I ordered a WLH neck to match up with the 59/C hybrid I've got laying around. These should turn my new PRS into a monster.

$200? Man that's an amazing loot and a great background story. C'grats!

Awesome man... Only played one PRS way back in the day.. (before I could afford a picture of a guitar).. That is sweet.

Re: So I Picked Up One of my Dream Guitars Yesterday... for $200.

Thanks everyone for the accolades! This is a hell of a guitar. I can barely put it down. It speaks to me in a way that pretty much no other PRS has, including my guitarist's VERY nice studio that he picked up new last year. It just feels like home.

Ironically, I have never really gelled well with PRS'. (Thankfully cuz aside from this $200 jem, most are way outta my price range) However, a year or so ago, there was a green one kinda like this at my local GC that was used, that absolutely played like a dream. I wish I knew the details of the year and model of it..
