So I put a downpayment on a Les Paul...

If it took a "down payment" and it wasn't a Gibson - you got ripped off! And even more reason to go for the pup swap. Double PGs! (DOn't want to get busted for being "off topic")

But now that you have raised our interest - please don't hold us in suspense...

And my Kaman GTX 36 LP Custom Kicks Ass! But my Epiphone PG/CC sounds best overall....And nothing still beats #1 (79 Standard Cherry Sunburst - and I wouldn't trade it for your house)

Well I teach at a Catholic High School, so I can't afford much
:laugh2: . It is a used Les Paul Standard Epiphone and it cost 395 before tax. I don't see many of those used. I don't feel like I got ripped off as it is in mint condition. In fact it looked like it had hardly been touched.

I don't know if I'd like the Custom Custom. I'm not a big fan of high output pickups in humbuckers. They are often too dirty for me. I think I'm leaning more and more toward the PG set.

And for the record - Mom & dad bought my LP standard for me when I was 12! I agree based on your post that you might not like the custom custom. I still vote Double PG's.

And my Epiphone LP, is for all practical purposes as far as I'm concerned, an LP. Only Gibson is Stupid enough to believe that a Les PAul Standard is worth 2 grand, and then let their Korean line NOT use their name. You never hear much talk about Fenders that way, do you?

Well a lot of players seem to look down on those of us who can't afford a Gibson. I have found with the exception of pickups and maybe some hardware issues, the Epiphones are decent playable guitars. If I spent that much on a guitar I wouldn't want to take it out for fear of damage or theft. I can't really afford one to begin with. So if I buy one at $400 and change the pickups to Duncans I've got a decent sounding LP for about $600. Too bad Epiphone can't put some better sounding pickups in to begin with and sell them for a couple hundred more...
