So I took the pickguard off my Les Paul Jr DC... look at this garbage

Wow, we got to 4 pages and didn't even start discussing the electronics.

AMS gets guitars from the manufactures and ships them from warehouses when they are ordered by customers, they don't inspect the guitars before shipment

I have a 2007 guitar of the week dc junior (nashville jr is what they called it). Basically a faded / roughly finished dc junior with the prairie flower pickguard. I took it off after reading this thread and it looks even worse then the OP's guitar.

I respect his right to be dissatisfied with his guitar. However, mine plays and sounds fine and the pickguard obviously hides the notsogoodlooking job so all in all I'm ok with it.

Does it really matter what's under your pick guard?

Do you know the modes?

The major scale all over the neck?

These things matter way more!

Wow.

I'd be disappointed to pull the pickguard from my jr and not see the long tenon.

So why didn't they "cover it up", with wood filler or whatever?

Well it's like this - that there's the neck joint. And should that neck need to be reset somebody would be in there damaging the tenon trying to carve all the wood bondo or whatever out.

My historic les pauls look about the same - under the pickup (where the neck tenon is on a les paul).

You are complaining about a non-issue. Looks pretty good to me.

Being such a fan of the artist this guitar is based on, I bought the epiphone version. I decided to take off that tiny cover under the neck only to find a hole through which I could see the structure of the guitar. It looked similar to this (this is not a jab at Gibson quality)

I put the cover back on and kept playing it. Never bothered me. I think the point some of us are trying to make is that as long as the structure of the guitar is fine there is no issue with this since this was designed to be covered up anyway.

They know that joint doesn't look good, so they cover it with the guard. Normal.

My 2013 Gibson 335 Studio is the same as the Delonge. Tortoisehell cover at the neck joint. Doesn't phase me in the least.

I have said it before but all the top quality guitars look good in the areas that aren't seen. That was something i saw them mention on the hamer workshop video and it rings true in almost every situation.

I took pictures of my Hamer Artist when I was changing pickups, and you are absolutely correct. The wood choices, the neck tenon and tightness of joints, the electronics were spectacularly clean. Just flawless.

How do you like that model? I've considered it seriously and even considered it over my Les Paul. I want that 335 type feel and sound but I feel like the Memphis prices are ridiculous.

I also owns a Gibson ES 333. That was not a good experience however in the one that I had had a truss rod issues.

It was my #1 for about a year. Plays great. Sounds great. Very midrangey/warm and loud and sings. Trapeze can cause some vibration induced noise issues with high volume/gain- certain string brands were much worse than others. Liked the controls being so much closer to the bridge.

The big detriment, of course, is only 1 pickup. I needed that neck pickup. Went back to Les Pauls. I prefer the semi-hollow's sound, but Les Pauls are just much more comfy.
