So, I want to buy my first Duncan

A Humbucker .

Tonally, my benchmark is Eddie, like many , but don't have the amp to cop that tone (Just a Blackstar ht-5 head) . I want a PAF like humbucker that is crisp in the upper registers and not shrill. Im going for a hard rock tone but not much gain, I'm pretty okay at coaxing stuff out with my right hand so I've never liked a lot of gain . It's going to go in a Squier strat , Alder or Agathis body and it'll have 500k pots.

Instinctively I'm thinking of the 59' but you guys will know much better.

Alternatively I've been considering a GFS VEH, I've heard it's one of their better offerings but Id rather go for a Duncan

I think the 59/Custom Hybrid might be a good shout. I've got one fitted to my Fret King Esprit. It's a PAF-alike with a bit more bite and grunt...

Re: So, I want to buy my first Duncan

Oh well there you go that's how clueless I am :)

So it's a hot PAF sort of deal? I'll check out some clips!

Re: So, I want to buy my first Duncan

Duncan Custom or DiMarzio Super Distortion. Take your pick. Also, you can do plenty with a Blackstar HT-5.

based on what you are describing, the '59/C Hybrid would work fine.

Re: So, I want to buy my first Duncan

The Blackstar HT-5 is capable of getting Eddie Marshall-y type tones. 59/Custom Hybrid is killer with the HT-5 for these tones. Custom is great too, but maybe a bit too high output for you. Custom Custom is another option.

Re: So, I want to buy my first Duncan

Alright thanks guys !

Sounds like there is a consensus .

Aside from the hotter winding, tonally how different is the 59 and 59/C

Re: So, I want to buy my first Duncan

The Custom is heavier and more direct sounding. Attack is faster with the ceramic magnet.

Re: So, I want to buy my first Duncan

I definitely think that the 59/C is perfect for you. That amp is pretty good too. I was going to get the combo version for a practice amp, but decided on a little headphone amp, just because I travel a lot for work.

Re: So, I want to buy my first Duncan

I do love my amp, just didn't know how convincingly Marshall it was

It's very british, and it sounds great with my strat copy (OEM Wilkinson pups)

I'm definitely on the prowl for the 59/C then! How reluctant are you USA boys to ship to Australia?
I'll make a WTB thread sooner or later, once I sort some stuff out. I'd rather buy used

Re: So, I want to buy my first Duncan

If you do want to try a Custom I've got a new one that I'm selling. Im in Australia too.

Re: So, I want to buy my first Duncan

The Custom seems like a more modern sort of pickup, and perhaps it is too hot for my tastes!

Thanks though mate :)
