So I've been looking at basses...

Re: So I've been looking at basses...

again, I like the EB-0 and EB-2... I'd prefer the EB-2 but my local shop doesn't have it. they might cut me a good deal on the eb-0 though since I shop there often and they know me by name.

Does Epi have an EB-2 out now? I hope so! But highly doubt it.

If you are talking about the EB-3, as I said, I have one for sale. If you are interested, drop me a line. I am looking for $200 plus shipping.

This has to be one of the ****ing sexiest things I've ever seen. I realize that everything is subject to opinion, but gibson basses (specially the kind with that big ol pickup) just get this chewy growl that I looooove... it sounds Huuuuuuuuuuge but doesnt have that stereo typical treble response you hear from everyone who plays a p bass with a pick.

if epi made an eb 2, id be on it.

it's so gooooooooooey

Re: So I've been looking at basses...

I love the way Gibson basses look. But I have never fallen in love with one on any other level. The EB-2 is my favorite of the Gibby basses. I'd like to see a bolt-neck Epi version that could take a high-quality Fender-style neck. The short-neck T-Bird is extremely interesting to me as well. I play short necks quite a lot. I love 'em. And with a T-Bird, it really makes sense.

I will get my Epi EB-3 long neck back from my friend and get some pix for you. It's got a kind of Jazz Bass-esque neck in terms of the width at the nut, but with a much flatter fretboard. It plays well, looks amazing, and sounds OK around the house at low volumes. But every time I have tried to play it at a gig at volume, instead of my P or Musicmaster, it just doesn't cut it tonally. The Epi pickups are just cheap. I would put a P pickup in it in a second if I intended to keep it. The bridge mini humbucker is way better than the neck mudbucker. It might not need to go. I got it new on a whim about 6 years ago from a local music shop that Guitar Center was about to put out of business. I immediately put D'Addario flats on it (got 'em along with the bass), and they are still there. I loaned it to my friend about 2 years ago. I will see what sort of shape it is in when I get it back! :D

P.S. I'm not a lefty. My computer camera flips pix.

That brown color is hard to find, btw. Actually found a guy on CL trading one a couple of weeks ago, but by the time I emailed him and offered up my Jazzmaster for it, he had already set up a deal with someone else.

yeah, Traben.. I believe they are a sister co to Michael Kelly.. They have a great build. just slightly diff approach cuz they use large metal bridges for more sustain.. they actually worked with Bootsy and made him a sig star model.. ill try to post a pic of mine on my break.

Re: So I've been looking at basses...

I have just converted 375USD into GBP. Seems like a fair price to me.

IMO, any modern two pickup bass with three-band active EQ is capable of fitting in with the majority of musical styles. If you need to nail a specific vintage sound, get the appropriate old school bass guitar, the right strings and a simple amplifier.

The guff about "not being a very good bassist" is a diversion. Get a decent instrument. Put in some work. You soon will be a decent bassist.

Glenn, there was nothing wrong with the Squier bass that you sold that could not have been corrected with a professional quality pickup and an active EQ circuit.

One of my cheapo Yamaha Attitude Plusses used to have an SD Active EQ series P pickup and an EMG-TBC crammed into it. Man, on certain settings, I could make that sucker clank like a Rickenbacker 4001.

I've held back on buying any bass because I've decided to keep an eye on local deals for a while. A while back I remember seeing epiphone thunderbirds for around $250, even gibson rippers for $600.

Bloodrose, that thing's freakin' wild. I've never seen something like that before.

Re: So I've been looking at basses...

thanks! They only made 100 of them for an anniversary.. they made 50 5 strings.. Brass nut, active pups. Tribal Sun SE model.. I love the flame inlays in the board.. plays good.. if I was keeping it, Id probably lower the action some.. Comes with a HSC. Pretty sure I have dunlop straplocks on it too..

that could be me doing that video :eek2: eek!

Did anyone besides me want to jump through the internet and beat him to death with that bass?

If this could be you Astro, be someone else instead!

If I'm Epiphone, I sue him for ruining sales of this, because right now, because of that I'm NEvER buying one.
