I was just sitting watching the Live in San Francisco DVD on my LCD screen which is a million times better than watching it on my tv. Anyway, it wasn't until now that I noticed that in one of his chrome boy guitars the neck and bridge pickup are clearly marked with the Seymour Duncan logo. Later I'll go back and check out the other guitars on the dvd just out of curiosity.

I thought he was a strict dimarzio user? Any idea which ones he's using in there?

They were PG's. That axe was stolen a few months after that gig.

Joe prefers Duncans because they are a better quality pickup than dimarzio.

he just got a new signature neck pup the paf joe, and his axes are now loaded fred/paf joe (both DM)

where you get that fact/assumption from?

IMHO, it seems as if Dimarzio are a bit cleaner and thinner, and Duncan seems to put out warmer, more soulful tones. Both are good for certain applications. I'm kinda shocked Joe was using PGs in the first place, I thought his sig. model pickup "did it" for him.

the body is luthite and not basswood, maybe PG's sound better in luthite ?

i dunno and dont care so long as he continues making good music i like

Most of the time he uses his Fred and PAF joe guitar, but like everyone else in the world, he uses some other stuff to... in this case, duncans

of course, this just goes to show all those morons that go out and buy stuff their favorite player uses that just because someone endorses a product(ahem, gets paid to be seen with it), does not mean that they use that product exclusively. Every musician experiments and uses different products. I watched that dvd and more than half of that dvd and album was recorded with him using the Duncan loaded guitar. He also used another chrome one loaded with dimarzios and then a third with Dimarzios also on one song.

nope, im 99% sure the Chromeboy is lucite so the finish stuck to it.

the other JS's are basswood though

Nope, the Chromeboys are basswood, they had a heck of a time figuring out how to chrome plate them, if you look closely at some of them that have been played, there are often cracks in the chrome. The Lucite ones were a limited run anniversary model and were clear.

I think they did both basswood, and lucite chromeboys when they became available to the public, but im think the ones he uses are basswood, he explained on the Live in san Fran DVD that one of his chromeboys (i think the one he uses most) has a clear flaw on the front because they had troubles chroming basswood at first. But i remember seeing a chromeboy on the internet that had a lucite body, at leasti think so anyway.
