So My Doctor's Office Has Moved.... N.G.D.!!!

For the past few years I've have to travel about 45 minutes each way to see a specialist at least once a month but last month they informed me that they were closing that clinic & I'd now have to travel over an hour each way, but in the opposite direction! Not only is the new place further but it's in an armpit of a tourist town that I'd normally avoid like the plague because it's usually filled up with out of town A$$#0|€$ that are more concerned with the pretty mountains & changing leaves than their driving habits!!! :cussing::cussing::cussing:

LOL anyway, when I arrived at this new place yesterday I realized there was a music shop right across the street & since I had to be up there anyway I thought I'd stop in before heading home. This place is pretty small & at first I didn't see much in there that sparked my interest, until I ventured into the "Consignment Center!!!" that is...

Granted the "Consignment Center" only consisted of two guitars & a late 90's Fender Frontman but one of those guitars just so happened to be a beautiful mint condition 2017 L.P. Tribute in Honyburst with a very friendly price tag!!! Once I played the guitar (under that seemingly quite useless neon sign) I knew for sure two things were going to happen....

First, I wouldn't be leaving empty handed when I had a perfectly good credit card in my pocket!!! Secondly, my wife was going to be P!$$ed at me when I got home!!!:chairshot

Apparently the guy who was selling the guitar had bought it new about a month earlier & then had some unexpected bills pop up which forced him to let it go? So it was priced to sell & I was very impressed by the build quality! In fact I couldn't find anything on it at all that I didn't like or I felt like needed to be fixed! Except perhaps the 490T bridge humbucker, I've never been a big fan of the 490T & I just so happen to have a SH-5 Custom laying around that I may put in there instead? In any case I'm definitely happy to see Gibson has been stepping up their Q.C. game of late instead of just selling their brand!!!

My last new Gibson L.P. was a 2015 Les Paul 100 & although it is an absolutely amazing guitar now it definitely took some work to get it there! Luckily it was bought later in the year so by then they had started putting the robot tuners into the case & shipping them with Grover's. Regardless, I still had to replace the Brass zero fret nut with a Titaium one, round out the Plek'd frets, address some random sharp fret ends, Etc, & that was just to get it playing good!!!

These things didn't "NEED" to be done but with that one I've also replaced the printed circuit board with a traditional 50's harness & P.I.O. caps, replaced the stock switch because it was just plain garbage, & replaced the stock Burstbuckers with a SH-14/SH-P.G.N. humbucker set because the stock pickups lacked character.

I may do at least some of these things to this one as well but it's definitely a much better STOCK guitar as it sits & I could easily live with it as is!!! If I did have a complaint it would be that these come with a heavy soft gig-bag instead of a hard case. I imagine they've done this to keep the cost down which is fine? For what I spent on the guitar it didn't kill me to drop another $80 on a good molded hard case for it....

Congrats? I hope the wife wasn't too mad, or did you tell her yet?
That sure is one pretty guitar, though.

You know surprisingly enough I didn't have to ride the couch last night, LOL!!!

I don't think she's overly excited about it but as long as I make sure it's paid for when the bill arrives I'm pretty sure I won't have to get a divorce???

Thats awesome that you scored a nice Gibson and didnt get beat up for it! (Literally) One time I was at a shop and saw a Snow White Pearl Jackson KV3 and I had to have it. I called my girfriend (at the time), and said "I just wanted to let you know that Im buying a guitar" then I hung up on her... :)
She wasnt as mad at me as I was anticipating, however she wasnt too thrilled either....Then I made her a deal she couldnt refuse. No not that! I told her she could go shopping and match what I spent on that guitar. So that became our rule from then on out. I miss her.

Any plans for a pickup swap, or does it sounds pretty good as is? What do they put in them anyways? 496?

Ah, sneaking the new Gibson past the spouse. A great American pastime that will last as long as Gibson does.

Hell, I've been sneaking Gibsons past myself for a while. I forgive myself most of the time.

Love my wife and my Tribute not in even remotely equal amounts though she does let me keep most of my guitars:18:

LOL, you guys crack me up!!!

I'm still kinda flip-flopping over whether or not I should go ahead and replace the bridge pickup with the SH-5, & if so how I should go about doing it. Like almost all new Gibson's (especially ones in this price range) it's got a printed circuit board Quick Connect system instead of a harness that can easily be soldered onto so I'm either going to have to cut the lead off my stock 490T & splice it onto the SH-5 or go ahead and pretty much rewire the entire thing.

If it comes to it I should have everything I need to rewire it providing I'm able to replicate what I've done in the past & re-purpose the potentiometers from the stock harness? I know I have plenty of cloth push-back wire, a couple brand new .33 P.I.O. capacitors, & a Switchcraft L.P. wired 3way toggle leftover from a old project I never finished but it's a lot of work just to change a pickup!

Re: So My Doctor's Office Has Moved.... N.G.D.!!!

Keep it simple. Just cut the leads. Leave enough lead on the pickup you're removing so that you can easily lengthen it.
