he messaged me saying i found my neighbor throwing it out, can you tell me what it is, i go over, and its a ****ing 60s melody makers, jesus ****ing christ, why cant something like that happen to me, anyways it wasnt properly set up at all so i told him to take it to a tech to get a good set up and he did, and then i asked him where he was going to sell it, and he says im just gonna play it and try to learn how to play guitar, plus side for me i get to play it to, but come on, imagine the luck of finding your neighbor throwing out a 60s melody maker

Re: so my friend FOUND a 60s melody maker

Did the neighbour know what it was? If I was your friend I would be thinking of throwing the guy some money towards it, although its a funny situation to be in. The guy presumably thought it was worth nothing or he wouldnt have thrown it out, so if you then tell him here's some money he might start looking into how much its really worth....

Hahahaha, nice score for your friend anyway, probably better just to keep quiet about it! :beerchug:

How much are those worth anyway? Im guessing a few grand?

Re: so my friend FOUND a 60s melody maker

ya on ebay they are around 2 grand, but im not opposed to keeping it, i get to go over and play it

Re: so my friend FOUND a 60s melody maker

Just tell your friend that you'll buy it from him for $100.

Then sell it to me for $200 plus shipping and you'll clear 100% profit.

$2000 for a perfect one from a real seller/dealer, haven't seen lots of perfect ones around. $600-1200 depending on condition otherwise.

Great guitars when set up right

Honorable thing to do would be for your friend to reward his neighbor in a non monetary way since it sounds like they dont care about money. Have you dated a serial number on it? Cant wait to see a photo. Your friend isn't nicknamed Iceman is he? :dunno:

That's a great stroke of luck. I love those guitars.

It's criminal that the old ones go for so much. They used to be a dime a dozen in the '90's. It's not like they are rare or anything. There must have been bajillions of them made. Even about 6 or 7 years ago, every vintage shop I went in to here in L.A. had about ten of them hanging on the wall for $400 to $600 each. Almost bought one on several occasions, but decided it was too much to spend when the brand new MMs with the P90, which I liked better, were just coming out for $350 to $400 with a 5 year warranty. Ended up getting one of those thrown in for free when I bought my LP Standard in '04, and I have played it much more than the Standard.
