So, What is the Consensus On The Marshall SL-5 That Came Out A few Years Ago?

I read some old reviews on here and stuff. I got a line on one for pretty damn cheap. I watched some videos of it. I'm impressed somewhat. It's not excactly me, I don't think, but I did like what I heard from videos. I'd love to have one of the JVM 1 watt heads, but for the price I can score this at....it might be a no brainer. Anyone?

I love mine, it can do AFD, JCM800, and with the presence cranked JCM 900 tones, clean channel sounds good. It's a lot more versatile than most of the reviews make it seem. If I had to do it again I probably wouldn't have bought one new, because it was expensive for a 5w MIC amp, but if you're getting a good price and love Marshall tone, it makes a great practice/studio amp. Definitely better than a DSL5 IMO, the El34 and Vintage 30 w/closed back cab make a huge difference, an FX loop would have been a nice addition though. Also be forewarned that it makes a pretty good POP when switching channels with the footswitch

I've never heard one in person, but from the clips and vids I've seen and heard, I'd pick one up really quickly if I could get a great deal on one.

Jolly you know you are going to buy it so just pull the trigger. I actually need something like that. The DSL is going back to the practice room on Friday that leaves me with just the Excelsior upstairs.

I've had mine for about a year now and it gets played almost everyday but I do switch between it and my Soldano Astroverb. Only thing I've done is swap out V1 and V2 for Mullard 12ax7's which warmed it up a bit more. Great sounding amp. Great modern (80's modern) Marshall roar sound. I just dial in that Marshall sound and don't really go for a Slash sound. IMO - it just sounds like a good Marshall. I mostly play it on 1 watt mode, gain around 12 o clock, volume 3 o clock, mids lower than bass and treble and presence to taste. I add a tubescreamer for extra boost and usually use the low input but sometimes use the high input when you need a little more.
