Ok I looked at many Guitars... but i still don't get it.. am i really that stupid? What's the difference please?
So what the heck is the differences between those Neck shapes (C, U, whatev...)

C, V, U, etc. are all used to describe the curve on the back of the neck, the part that rests against the palm of your hand. I bet if you found a neck with a sharp V profile (like Fender's Lite Ash Strat for example) you'd understand pretty quickly, especially if you had a regular C shape to compare with. My personal favorite is the assymetrical shapes like the neck on the SRV strat and the Peavey Wolfgangs (it's thicker on the bass side of the neck, make a C with your hand but keep your fingers fairly straight and you'll pretty much see how it's shaped)

Yup.. I would love to have an SRV type of profile but just a tad thinner. V necks feel really cool too.. I played one of those Deluxe Ash or whatever strat with the A2 pros in it and that's one bad ass guitar and it has a V neck. If you can find one of those at a local music store play it, you'll get the idea of the whole C, U, V stuff.

U's are pretty rare to come by. Those were based off the original early Telecasters, which feel like a very deep C carve. The D carve is like Charvel neck. The modern C is like an American Strat. The McCarty neck is a deep soft V, bordering on C....my favorite. The 60's taper is fairly thin near the nut, and gets fatter as it moves toward the body. The Gibson 50's profile means the same as the 59 profile.
The boatneck is an extremely fat baseball bat neck with a very soft V profile, like the bottom of a boat. My favorite is a chunky C like my G&L Legacy Deluxe and the McCarty neck.

Oh yeah, they don't charge any extra for profile or neck radius choices!
USA Custom lets you choose your own thickness based on standard profiles, so you could get an SRV profile slightly thinner, or many other options. They also have some graphics and good descriptions: http://usacustomguitars.com/contours.htmlCory_Dylan said:

Yeah, those were all HUGE factors when trying to choose between them and Warmoth for the neck on my strat project. I wound up getting USA's "The '54" profile, which is a .850" soft V that tapers to a .900" C shape up around the 10th fret. VERY comfy shape.

One thing that's an interesting thing to do is to measure around the backs of all the necks on your guitars, at the 1st fret and 14th. If you have several guitars, you'll quickly see why some are your favorites......they probably have the same neck profile, which you prefer.
