So what's a good set of speakers for a Carvin Belair

ehdwuld

A Ficus
I have a Belair and the OEM speakers are fine and all
but I'm jonesing to try something new

the amp has el84s x4

i dont know if it's a Fender or Vox clone

it has some nice cleans

Its a 2x12 and the OEM speakers are 8ohm
I think i want 16 ohm speakers

i have one 16 ohm v30
what else would go with that?
Maybe some other pairing altogether

Something alnico perhaps?

The later versions came with Vin 30's BTW. If you have a Vin 30 a couple that come to mind would be a WGS Retro 30 or ET 65. Would stay away from the WGS Vet 30 for those because they have a tendency to be rather muddy on the crunch side and the Vet IMO would be a mushy mess in that amp. The WGS Retro 30 is one of my favorite speakers in an open back combo. I have a Retro 30 in my Zinky Blue Velvet combo now. They play very well with a Vin 30.

thats exactly what I have in another cab
the WGS Veteran 30 in 16 ohm and I was thinking about pairing it with the Chinese V30 16 ohm

dang
you say that may not be a good idea?

hmmm they say the V30 has a scooped mid I know that the Veteran 30 has a bit of a scoop

maybe something a bit brighter to pair with it
maybe and eminence of some sort
or Jensen

I was looking at the Jenson C12N
its the ceramic magnet version of the P12N which is alnico

maybe the Neo versions

I dont know there are so many choices

Thanks Rich
let me know if you want to move on from that plain jane rock machine

Ack! I am getting an error when I try to move this. I might have to add move thread to the list that gets fixed. I will try again in a little while.

Those Vintage Tube Carvin amps sound great. I have a Vintage 33, which is a smaller, 1x12 version of the Belair. Actually, it was the predecessor to the Nomad.

At any rate, they have the same circuit design, same tubes, 2-channels and reverb as your amp.

For me, when I changed speakers it was important to preserve the character of the excellent clean channel. I wound up with an Eminence Governor and have zero regrets. The Governor is supposedly Eminence's take on the Vintage 30. They did a great job with it and they managed to avoid the harsh, upper midrange peak that is often maligned in the V30 when paired with some amps.

Also, I have a matching 1x12 extension cab with an Eminence Wizard in it. Together, they blend very well and provide a loud, efficient delivery of clean or distorted tones.

I am super happy with this amp and these speakers. I have no desire to change anything.

the wizard is the one you can adjust the volume on aint it

No. I think that's the Maverick and maybe one or two others. Those have attenuators on the back of the speaker.

The Wizard is another Eminence version of a Celestion speaker. I think it's the G12H30 but I don't know for sure. Either way, it is very efficient, has full lows and smooth highs with a recessed midrange. It's pretty popular to see Governors and Wizards paired together among Eminence users.

They really complement each other nicely. They also have very similar sensitivity so one doesn't dominate the other.

hmm that is interesting

do you think it would pair well with the V30 that I have?

or do you think I need a pair of A-Types

I have an Eminence designed Jet City speaker that sounds awesome with the Bugera G5 and the WGS Veteran 30 speaker cabs
so I am gonna move the Jet City and the V30 to the Carvin
then put a 15 in one of the 1x cabs I have and use them with the Bugera

to clarify I have a 1x12 Jet City cab
a custom made 1x15 cab with an adapter ring for the 12 in speakers that I have on hand
( I dont currently possess a 15 inch speaker)

as well as the Belair
and the 1x12 Laney with the HH speaker

oh and I got a homemade 1x12 cab with a EHX VR series speaker
I like that speaker

If you already have a Vet try it. I like the Vet 30 but find them a little dark and also find the vintage series Carvin amps on the dark side it's a good speaker and may work ok with a Vin 30. I have just run a Retro and a Vintage 30 together in a cab and liked the result. .

I have the Vet 30 paired with a WGS ET-65 in a 2x12. They both sound great. I have no complaints about either.

But I’ll suggest a sleeper of a speaker that is easily my favorite that I’ve ever tried.

It’s the Splawn Small Block. It’s a 55w greenback clone made by Eminence exclusively for Splawn.
He sells them for $95 with free shipping. You will not be disappointed
