So who still digs the Invader?

Re: So who still digs the Invader?

My guitar is bright-ish for a mahogany guitar and I rarely downtune. Hmm.
I'll go nuts reading opinions here. Lots of differing views.
Nile's tone is super muddy, but they downtune real low and they GO after that mud.
Synyster doesn't and it works for him.
And of course I'll back it off as much as needed.

Maybe next month I'll buy it.

The Demon 8 more than does the heavy lifting job, shame that it's an unknown because many of you guys would LOVE it without a doubt.

I'd love to try one someday...

I haven't had an Invader since the 80s but from what I remember I liked it. I just scored one on TGP so I'll be finding out shortly how good my memory is.

And I did it... only 6 years later. :D

Bought an Invader set and dropped it in my Ibanez, replacing a JB. Is the Invader loud or what?

(only bridge installed by now, missing a ****ing screw for the neck Invader)

Going from the stock neck pup to bridge is like switching channels on my Tweaker now. And I actually set it pretty low to the strings.
It still drives the preamp like crazy.

This guitar is kinda bright sounding like most PRS designs are, and the Invader compliments it well and subdues the attack, while adding a metric ton of mids and a thundering, tight bass.
Reminds me a bit of the tone a friend's Les Paul has, with Super Distortions in it.

I've been playing Master of Puppets riffs on this thing all afternoon. It's so good!

The JB sounded more precise, tame and balanced. The Invader is way over the top, in a great way. Love it.

Re: So who still digs the Invader?

I bought an MJ wound 80s Invader months ago that i have been itching to put into one of my guitars. It measures out at an insane 17.41k. that is ridiculous!

So that marks the question...what types of guitars does the Invader really excel in? I would imagine it would be mud city in something Mahogany but would be amazing in alder or Basswood.

Well, my guitar's made of mahogany, but it's nowhere near as dark as my Les Paul is. It has a lot more slice and zing in the high-end.

It would probably sound great in brighter guitars, but I'd still take a shot with it in my Les Paul.

Re: So who still digs the Invader?

Actually, it is a surprising pickup. I've heard it sound wonderful in all kinds of wood, and muddy in some, too. I guess it depends on the EQ of the gin you use, too. But like many pickups, it might just be what you are looking for, so it won't do much good outside a guitar- get that thing installed!

Re: So who still digs the Invader?

I once owned a set of blue Invaders, installed on an alder-bodied Jackson RR3. Besides the fact that it took TWO YEARS for the pickups to arrive to Portugal since ordered, they really rocked on that axe.

I no longer own the guitar or the pickups, BTW.
