So...would this work?

I have an idea for a pickup, but im not sure if it would be possible.

I was thinking of getting a humbucking singlecoil made to fit inside a humbucker route. Would taking a typical singlecoil bobbin and cutting it in half (essentially making it into two sections: EAD and GBE) and then winding them separately work? It would look basically like a Fender WideRange Humbucker, except it would be a single coil.

Would this work?

Sorry, Im such a :newbie: to this stuff.

Thanks for any advice you can give me!

I'm not positive, but I believe thats what they've done here:

Not that they're made to fit in a humbucker route or anything, but G&L makes guitar pickups, much like Precision Bass pickups, and I suspect that those separate coils are RW/RP to be hum cancelling. I haven't read G&L's hype, but I've been seeing pictures of those for several years.

Thanks for the replies!

One more thing: could it be done so that the coils could be done up p90 style (with screws and bar magnets i mean, not necessarily the p90 sound).

I guess I need to look more into this.

Oh and thanks for the link to the Custom shop pickup! Very Cool!

EDIT: Nevermind, I looked at the link again and my question was answered. Thanks again!

Re: So...would this work?

So are the custom shop pickups actually humbuckers, or are they what I sort of tried to describe?

I should shoot them an email.
