So, you guys who use non-reverb

vintage style Marshalls and the like - what do you do for reverb? Pedal? Delay pedal? Or just use none?

I don't like much, but I find solos need a touch...I really love the sound of the Marshall 1974X combo, but does it need a touch of verb to sing, or does it work without to your ears?

Re: So, you guys who use non-reverb

I find a touch of reverb is nice when playing at home alone, but I don't use it much with the band. I have a Line 6 Verbzilla and Echo Park and a Boss DD-3. I use the Echo Park on about 3 songs in my band's current set. My Marshalls are a JMP 2104 and a Jubilee 2553 - haven't tried the 1974X.

Sounds great, but is pricey...I am weighing up between 3 amps right now:

1974X - lovely but expensive
Bluesbreaker - ditto
JCM800 4104 with EL34S - secondhand, battered, big, cheap

JCM is about 1/3rd of the price of the others, but it's a big beast...

Holy Grail pedal owner here. I've never used the Verbzilla, but I'd sure love to try one. Holy Grail works well through the Edana.

Re: So, you guys who use non-reverb

I use a DD-6 for delay, you can get used to playing without reverb, live it's not really needed.

Scott, really man, you need a shave and a haircut:)

Re: So, you guys who use non-reverb

I use a Cornford MK50 which has no reverb and to be honest it doesn't need it. I do have a Boss DD3 in the effects loop, but I don't use it very often. I don't know why, but this amp doesn't need reverb?? I have a Hellcat that does have reverb but always turn it off when we gig, only use it in the house. I prefer this type of sound 'coz it cuts through the mix better without having to crank the volume to push the mushy sound out front.

Re: So, you guys who use non-reverb

Devastone - That's strange. I heard you liked your men "au naturale"... ;)

Re: So, you guys who use non-reverb

I usually play dirty amps without 'verb... even if it's there I rarely but rarely turn it on. Maybe a hair for solos... I'd reach for a delay first. Clean stuff is a whole other ballgame... some 'verb on crystal clean tone is great. Especially for chordal work.

I found the Holy Grail to be really noisy... Using a PV Valverb here. I also dig the Fender standalone tanks but don't own one.

Re: So, you guys who use non-reverb

i like some verb for my clean tones unless its a big band and i dont want to fill up too much space. i have a verbzilla and it works but if i know i want reverb i bring my outboard tank or reverb amp. the holy grail is a good one also

Re: So, you guys who use non-reverb

I play without reverb, except in the sound.

I use my CM Delayla for short fast repeats, gives me a bigger fuller sound and ambience.

EDIT: With sound I meant studio

Re: So, you guys who use non-reverb

I've got an original 60s Fender standalone reverb (it's beautiful), and a 60s Deluxe Reverb with it built in, but I don't like reverb in a live situation as a general rule. I use slapback delay instead.

Re: So, you guys who use non-reverb

No verb for me - just plain Marshall crunch. I use delays for echo and for rhythmic-repeat things, but never liked reverb. It just clutters up the stage sound.

Re: So, you guys who use non-reverb

I use my echoplex for a bit of "space" but Im looking into outboard verbs as we speak so I can free the plex up for more echo's and such when I want that...

Re: So, you guys who use non-reverb

I have reverb on my Ashdown, but as it didn't work for the first six months I had it (the circuit board was no pushed home properly) I've kinda got used to not having it.
Especially in the band it's difficult enough to hear myself think never mind notice reverb.

Re: So, you guys who use non-reverb

I've had a few stand alone units, but I find I dig my Donnerbox Spatial Delay better.

In slapback mode, it does very well :bigthumb:

Re: So, you guys who use non-reverb

if one of my heads does not have reverb i live without it.... if i use one of my combos with it i'll use it....

Re: So, you guys who use non-reverb

I like a mild natural reverb on about every kind of tone. Luckily all my non reverb heads have an FX loop, so I run the EH Holy Grail on a low setting on them. The combos all have tube driven spring reverb, so the clean tones have any level of reverb I feel like. I like having the sound of being in a big wooden room all the time.

Re: So, you guys who use non-reverb

My Tweed Twin (main amp) does not have reverb but as all of our tweed aficionados know that you don't need 'em 'verb fer da tweeds! However, I've got a Line 6 Verbzilla just in case that I use often - sounds great. When i have hte tube screamer on though, the Verbzilla comes off. I don't like reverb with any sort of crunch. Sometimes im in a verb mood with clean, sometimes I'm not. I never NEED it, but its there if I want it.
