I never understood the obsessive quest for Slash’s tone. It’s a great tone, one of the best - but IMO almost any paf’d up LP into a marshall can get 95% there if the player can play like Slash. Even better if it’s the Slash set. It’s not like his pups were wound with unicorn pubes. If they can’t play like him, they could use his own original equipment and sound completely different.

There is the discussion that the guitar in question is extra bright or whatever, so most Gibsons need a little more of whatever its is to get there. Still, I say bah. Get an A2P and set the dials.
Did you see the detail Seymour went to though? Does your tech do that?

He has one of the best Les Paul into Marshall tones of the past 30 years. That’s what the fuss is about. He almost single handedly saved the Les Paul from extinction. You may or may not like his tone, but his playing has inspired a generation of guitar players. And to top it all off, he’s basically used the same setup the entire time. Les Paul with Duncans into a Marshall.

Without Slash and GnR there wouldn’t be bands like Buckcherry, Last Vagas, Ax7, etc... they don’t all pack LPs, but the GnR influence is undeniable. Slash had a huge part in the resurgence of the Les Paul.
Yes, there are far more bedroom wankers trying to decode EVH. He revolutionized the way the electric guitar is played. However, there is more to both players than just copying their gear.

I saw Slash with Myles K and the Conspirators a few years ago.
I can say with 100% certainty that Slash’s tone is monstrous. His recorded tone has not been captured as well as it could have ( with the exception of the Appetite album).
The only live tone I’ve heard that was bigger than Slash’s was Zakk Wilde’s.

I didn't know much about Slash in 87 when I saw GnR open for the crue. I'll never forget that show- crazy hair,top hat,Lp slingin Slash!

See, I think his original tone was pretty cool, and still unique. However, on Appetite and forward, I think it got syrupy stupid. After GnR, he got a little more back to normal.
My understanding is that the Original LP copy was a little brighter, so an A2P was perfect. The standard LP's are a little darker, thus the Slash HB's.

That's a great explanation. I've always heard that Slash used AII Pros. So I wondered why we needed "Slash" AII Pro's. That explains it. The Slash version definitely has a bit more bite. A bit more character than the smooth AII Pro's.

The Slash set is one of my favorites in the Duncan line. They are in the PAFish output range, but a bit more rude. If the Ants weren’t totally doing it for me right now, the Slash set would definitely be in one of my Les Pauls. I keep a set just in case.

I just swapped out my Slash AIIP's for a PG set. And, thanks to forum bro masta' c, got to try an El Diablo. So, if we assume that the ">" symbol means "a bit more bite", then:
AII Pro > Slash AII Pro > PG's > El Diablo.
To my ears, it's a subtle transition from beginning to end. But at the same time, I think my opinion might change if I could really "dime" my Bogner.
