SOAD Mesmerize appreciation thread

Re: SOAD Mesmerize appreciation thread

Like Forbes said, it grows on you... I bought it the day it came out on the way home from school, and I liked it. Now I like it A LOT. The song writing is definitely very different from other SOAD albums; the only song that recalls classic SOAD as in Toxicity to my ears is "Cigaro". All the songs are a new style that I never expected to hear from these guys. It may not be classic SOAD and that's why some people hate it, but to me it's still an amazing album. HOORAY FOR MESMERIZE!!

Oh and by the way FATIGUEOFHEART, Lamb of God IS good music, maybe you're just not as partial to it as others, but that doesn't mean it's bad. I hate old Slipknot, I just can't stand it. To my ears it's all screaming and crappy, downtuned, and annoying guitar playing. But some like it...

Like throwing a cat in a blender...

sorry, I have no appreciation for them after I saw them on TV some months back. :)

I respect your right to love them a lot. Buy all their cd's and support them as best you can. I take the opposite approach, but that's why they make both vanilla and chocolate! :)

lol.... granted, that performance didn't shed the best of light on their return to the music world after a few years... but didn't you at least listen to the some of the CD?

Re: SOAD Mesmerize appreciation thread

I really like Mezmerise but dont you think they made this album more radio friendly than their previous albums?

Re: SOAD Mesmerize appreciation thread

The thing with "it grows on you" is definately correct... after you hear it some times, you begin to hear it somehow different... and there are some part that are quite decent... still I think their political message is just marketing.

I think their politicalliness is so cliche like... It's the stuff that little kids want to hear so they think they are rebels 'n' stuff... just my .02

i was wondering if i was the only one who thought that.

Re: SOAD Mesmerize appreciation thread

Yeah, the politics aren't too challenging, i'll agree with that. I really dig the record though, some crazy stuff going on. Daron Malakian seems to have learned to play for this record too.

I dig that song with the 'terminator' vocal effect. Old School Hollywood.

I agree. Anyone who says or thinks anything critical of authority is just trying to be a teeny-bopper, wannabe rebel.

Re: SOAD Mesmerize appreciation thread

once again, i think it grows on you. I thought it was their worst CD at first, now i think its almost overtaken toxicity.

it also sounds like daron started taking guitar lessons

This is not what I wanted to say. It's the way they do... it just seems so... played... just to attract those kids I mentioned.

Re: SOAD Mesmerize appreciation thread

Yes. I like it a lot.

If you're opened for things that are fresh and original (and not just want to be fresh and original and die by their own blade as 95% of contemporary new pseudo-progressive-post-nu-wannabe shots do) then it's for you. Plus, Mezmerize clearly shows that they can open new dimensions to their own style. This thing reminds me a littlebit of Queen. They were the ones who coluld make something new from album to album but you could tell in the first 10 seconds that it's a Queen song. I feel the same with Mezmerize.

As performers, they don't remind me of Queen at all. They're just completely fallen apart. No they are not good musicians. But as songwriters - they are awesome, period. IMO having a degree or eight of music and writing good songs have albsolutely no connection of any kind. It's true with popularity, too.

Lyrics... Funny thing. The message that you over there regard as a general teeny-attractor, actually seems to fit somehow the global view of a lot of people about the States.

Anyway, in the land of freedom anyone has the right of criticising the system and making money and success of it, right? :)

I pity the 22 year-old know-it-all who claims that a 16 year olds opinion is worthless based upon his age. The irony is hilarious! :laugh2:
