I saw Pearl Jam last week and was way impressed by Vedders tone. I see that he is using a soapbar/p90 (i dunno the difference) in the neck of his tele now. Anyone have a clue as to what it was? also do these pickups fit in a pickguard fitted for a humbucker or does it a require a pickguard cut for for the p90?

cheers

Re: Soapbar as Tele neck pickup???

You might also need to route the body for the P90 to fit.

BUT...P90 in the neck of a Tele is a pretty popular mod.

Re: Soapbar as Tele neck pickup???

Was thinking bout modding my Squier tele. It plays pretty good, but as you would expect from a cheap guitar the pickups are rubbish.

So what pickups would be good?

What would you guys recommend for a P90 in the neck and single coil for bridge?

Re: Soapbar as Tele neck pickup???

A P90 that's a little underwound/lower output is a good choice since they can really overpower yer basic Tele bridge pu...both in output and lows. I used to use the old Guild Franz P90 version and that worked really well.

Re: Soapbar as Tele neck pickup???

If you're brave, you could take an existing P90 and take a bunch of turns off the coil.
