soft popping noise when I touch any metal part on guitar

That is the case. I looked at guitarnuts.com and it says that I am probally discharging a cap but, it goes into talking about the cap between the bridge ground and the signal ground that is used to keep a defective amp for shocking the crap out of you, which I am not even using.

I am wondering if it is static and I need to shield the guitar really well or if I am discharging a tone cap or something.

Any ideas would be wonderful.

Bad ground possibly, happened to my BC rich.

I have double and tripled checked the grounds. I have done a very good job at avoiding cold solder joints. I am wondering if a ground loop in the guitar may cause this?

Re: soft popping noise when I touch any metal part on guitar

Well, im not an expert but that has to be a grounding issue somewhere.

Possibly bad shielding if not.

Throw that guitar out a window and run over it several times with your truck!

Is the V giving you problems...you see why i sold it to you! Haha just kidding. Hey check the ground wire that runs from the wiring to the string through body V shaped metal plate. There is a ground wire that runs from the wiring to there and i might have done somehting to mess it up. Thats all i can help you with. only other thign i could say is completely unwire everything, clean everything off, and re wire it again covering just about everything in electrical tape. Thats what I was about to do....

I've got the same problem! I just replaced two single coils in my G&L (it's a legacy with an SSH pickup configuration) - the new pickups aren't noisy at all but when I touch the strings or the volume knob on the guitar I get a little crackle (no snap or pop though). I've checked every metal surface in the guitar, no ground issues, everything is ohming out at an ohm or two - so, I put the old pickups back in and sure enough it stopped!!! I put the new pickups in and sure as hell it's back!!! The old pickups are slightly hotter than the new ones - makes no sense!

I took the pickups out of the guitar and plugged it in. It still did it with out any pickups in it.

That's strange. All my guitars are doing this too. My guitars with pickup covers are worse. Even my SG is doing it. I think my problem is the changing of the season and I'm getting static build up in my body and the plastic pickguard. This may be a good sign that spring is around the corner
