Software similar to Garageband?

Hi!

I have not done anything with recording for years, I used N-Track for one project then got busy with life stuff; my son really got into Garageband at school so I am hoping to find something similar for Vista that he can get into without a big learning curve. I am looking for an app my son can use to create loops or tracks as a base then he can add bass and I can add guitar to end up with fun "family-style" songs!

I have a Line6 Toneport that I can use for guitar, bass, and vocals - now I just need a good program both of us can use... I looked at Reaper which looks really good but not sure if it is similar to Garageband... Thanks!

Steinberg's Sequel would come closest, but I don't think anyone but Apple has compiled the same kind of loop-based system as found in Garageband and Logic/Logic Express.

I believe Sony's Acid would be the closest PC program to GarageBand. I'm a Mac guy so I haven't used it, but I think it was part of the inspiration for GB.
