Soldano SLO100 or 1980 Gibson Les Paul Custom

I still owe the IRS about $2500 from last years taxes. I have decided to sell either my Soldano SLO or my 1980 Gibson Les Paul Custom w/Tim Shaw pickups to help pay the Taxman. The only problem is that I am having a hell of a time trying to make up my mind on what to sell and what to keep. If you were in my place which would you sell or keep and why?

Which one is easier to replace if you want another down the road? I'd think that the amp would be.

Re: Soldano SLO100 or 1980 Gibson Les Paul Custom

A great amp will make an OK guitar sound good.

A crap amp will make a great guitar sound like crap.

Re: Soldano SLO100 or 1980 Gibson Les Paul Custom

yeah but there are good-sounding amps way cheaper than SLO's

i'd keep the Les Paul if you've had it for long and are somewhat attached to it. No two Pauls are alike so if you like the one you've got and it's got your mojo on it i'd keep it.

The SLO is probably worth more and easier to replace (assuming the Gibby is a keeper)

here are my thoughts..

I agree with some_dude about the great amp. But the important question I think is this. Is the guitar special? Does it have mojo and do ya feel it? If so, you gotta keep that.. Finding that special guitar with the lively wood is more of a challenge. Soldanos are such quality pieces, you can buy another and get that great amp back.. you cant replace the mojo. If the guitar isnt so special, then let it go.

I'd sell the amp. If it was for any other reason, I'd say keep the amp, but it seems appropriate this time.

Re: Soldano SLO100 or 1980 Gibson Les Paul Custom

I'm with the majority and say sell the amp and keep the guitar; if the guitar is special. Finding another SLO or similar amp will be much easier than replacing a great guitar.

I sold a lot of gear 3 years ago when I lost my company and had to move quickly out of state. I had a great amp modded to my specs that I loved, and a couple of LP's and a Dean Hardtail. I miss everything that I had, but I miss my Dean Hardtail and my Honeyburst LP the most.

Plus, you can still play your guitar without an amp, but you can't do anything with just an amp.

Keep both, and send the Feds $100 a month for the next two years.

My real opinion? Hire the shrewdest Jewish CPA you can find and amend last year's tax return with twice as many write offs, and give Uncle Sam the big FU. Keep the gear you worked for.

They were back to solid 1 pc backs by 1980. 77, I think...and just because it's a Norlin doesn't automatically make it a POS...:chairshot

Doesnt matter. Its all semantics at this point . If *I think its a Norlin, and I know more than most ..way more...then for all intents and purposes its a Norlin whether it is or not..

yes, jerry. your drunken incoherent posts remind me of the night i lost my virginity.

anyway, Les Pauls from the 80's are ****in bad-ass. keep it...

Re: Soldano SLO100 or 1980 Gibson Les Paul Custom

haha..point is, an 80 Les paul is probably a Norlin, and I would ditch it. I dont know too much about them and even *I want to say Norlins are crap.Thats just the word on the streeet..don't blame me .I know most avid collecters avoid them like the plaque. Maybe it aint a Norlin, hell IDK. Not all Norlins suck, thats got to be true, but yet the value of any Norlin guitar, and if his isn't a Norlin (then I am dead wrong I guess sort of) , will be reflected in the marketplace, and that isnt really a good thing these days.I've sen them they arent really selling for that great of a price and they are hard to sell.
On the other hand new gear like a SLO is extremely expenesive..but more importantly one good in the hand is worth two in the bush, cause you just never really know when you get another one iof it will be as good or a nioghtmare.Thats all.
