Guess I will take your word on that. In the past they have used alder caps with a veneer on top. You can get a 5A maple cap on fleabay for less that 2 hundred bux? And how much would people pay extra? SEVERAL thousand? I will play my Epiphones, I think the PUPS and electronics are 95% of the sound anyway(Same Scale)

Well of my LP guitars
My real Gibson is Swamp ash body and maple neck
My Epiphone Florentine is mahogany with the veneer maple
My Ehdwuld branded Vanity Signature is mystery wood with photo flame
My Dean Shire has bent maple top and back semi hollow construction (plywood)
Each has different pickups
The Gibson has double slug OEM alnico V
The Epiphone has chrome covered Probuckers with Alnico 2
And the Ehdwuld has black brass covered JB/ Jazz Alnico V
The Dean has OEM pickups
The Ehdwuld is by far my best sounding one
I have a set of JB/Jazz with Triple shot rings ready for the next string change on the Gibson
So that may change
That's a long way round saying

I will probably put the same set in my Dean Shire as well
They just sound so good and some years ago I got several sets off a forum bro for a screaming deal

I had the 1995 model and, out of the five gibson les pauls I have owned found it to be the one I liked least as its sound was too middly and warm, it simply lacked the bite of my other lp standards. I thought it sounded more like a les paul custom......not my cup of tea.

Yeah it's different than my other historic for sure but its a monster. Plenty of bite for my tastes. Aside from that it just feels better than any other LP I've ever owned.

I have two all mahogany LP Customs and two all mahogany PRSs. They really are a little bit more voicelike than their maple-capped siblings. Less zippy, with a hint of vowel tone- not "aaah" but "oooh."

I prefer mahogany necks to maple. Quite aside from the weight factor, I find mahogany generally feels more elastic & lively in my hands. I firmly believe that a guitar's liveliness is due as much to the neck as the body. Maybe even more.
A lot of a guitar's individual tone character lives in the neck too. This is often overlooked, I think. There have been many cases with bolt-ons where necks were swapped and the tone followed the necks rather than the bodies.
I read a post recently from someone who felt that stiffer necks deliver fuller low end; the advice was to hit the low E open, bend one of the other strings, and see whether the pitch of the low E dropped any. (This only works on non-trem guitars).
I don't know about the tone thing; that may be correct. Personally I'm not overly concerned with superfat low end; if I want that I can turn to the Recto channel in my Triaxis and get it from just about any guitar. But as for liveliness, it's something I look for. If I can feel an axe come alive in my hands the first time I play it, I know it's going to sing well at volume.

This would be reason to return, not the lack of maple cap.. Unless, of course you didnt like the tone. All mahog LPs just have a warmer tone and with the right pups can be very pleasing.

I didn't think those all mahogany epiphone LP's had chunky necks. I know they are listed as slim taper. I've read they were chunkier than the "standard" slim tapers on some other Epi's but still, not really chunky. Then again, I never played one.
