Solo'ed metal bass track?

Any metal guys out there (VK, Sosomething, etc.) that think you have a pretty good bass sound, would you mind loading up a track that's only bass or bass and drums along side a full mix? Something thrash based would be most appreciated, but anything would be helpful.

Re: Solo'ed metal bass track?

What I'm looking for is a way to hear how a bass tone sounds both by itself, then how it sits in the mix. And therefore kind of get an idea of how to scuplt an ideal metal bass tone.

Re: Solo'ed metal bass track?

In all honesty my bass tones are asstastic - it's just a pitchshifted guitar, and it's really only there to provide low end and glue everything together.

Can you post an 'in-progress' example? That'd be easier for me to help with.

Also, most bass tones in metal have more grit to them than you'd think.

The guitars drop out of this one @ 2:19 & again @ 3:39: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6254268

The bass is up front at the start of this one & at the 2:00 mark the guitars go clean & leave a bunch of room for the bass: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6005230

Jeff mentioned grit - my bass tone now is different from those clips. I've been adding more & more grit, lusting after that In Flames bass tone. I've got a couple of chunks of things I'm working on, I'll upload & post those.

Re: Solo'ed metal bass track?

Most of the time I use a 'traditional' sort of bass tone. My favourite bass tone provides a massive 60hz rumble and has a prominent mid sound and crisp highs, so it doesn't have that horrible Korn fret rattle, but you'd have to be bass-deaf not to hear it.

PM me and I can send you some clips.

Re: Solo'ed metal bass track?

my favorite metal bass tones are very thick with lots of tube overdrive. for example on the most recent High on Fire album the bassist recorded directly to the board and then later ran the tracks out through a guitar head (marshall, dont know what model) to really get that gain going. it sounds awesome basically. check youtube for their song "death is this communion". its mostly a bass centric song and sounds awesome, though its more doom than thrash
