Some band recording on the Zoom H4n last night.

Anyone have experience on recording in 4ch or MTR mode in a band setting?

I brought my Zoom to my buddies last night. I've used it in the past, but this time I ran two SM57's out of it. One to my Sunn Beta Lead and the other to the bass rig. I used the Zoom's stereo mics to capture the drums. I put it in a mic stand just in front of the kit about 5' up, angled down. I put the tracks into Reaper and eq'd a little (I still think I need to Bump the low end up some more), and added a little compression to the drums. i wish I spent a little more time checking the levels and listening to each instrument on its own through some phones before going with it. Next time. I'm really hoping to get better quality recordings doing it this way instead of just using the Zooms stereo mics to capture everything.

Also, feel free to leave feedback on the tune. You'll notice there's a little structure change between the two. I changed the new one up a little in Reaper. I always felt it needed a little different ending than how we've been playing it.

An earlier recording just using the onboard mics.

Nice! This is the type of recording that I have been trying to get with the H4 for years. Now I know I just have to upgrade to the H4n.
And yes, I think if you spend a little more time dialing in, you're going to like it .

Thanks man! The H4n is nice. I've done quite a bit of recording with the onboard mics, just have to put some time in doing it this way.

killer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :headbang:

I like that remixed version, sounds like a lot of mics on drums and everything, nice mix!!!! I like panning bass to one side and guitar to the other too every now and then, and it brings out the guitar bending note parts.

I like that you can record with both the onboard and two additional inputs simultaneously.

Yeah, that's an awesome feature. Only, when putting it into Reaper, the two XLR Mics go in as one track. So you can't adjust them independently. That's in MTR mode. If I recorded in 4ch mode, then I should be able to.
