some ideas wanted for an amp

1st off, seeing all those experts here, I gotta say in the amp dept I am a complete noob, so please be calm and patient :)

Now the ideal specs :
- small compact modeling guitar amp, ideally with the size and shape of pizza box type of old school hifi home stereo amps (I am using 80s terminology here), anyways somth that can fit where a dvd player used to be
- can also serve as general purpose audio home amp, for parties, etc
- has bluetooth connectivity for wireless speakers
- has iphone/android connectivity

So, I will be able to use it both as a guitar amp and a home audio amp.

Will a combination of a good modern home amp and the amplifi TT do the trick?

Re: some ideas wanted for an amp

Powered speakers and a multi effects rack might fit the bill. Bluetooth is going to be tricky

Re: some ideas wanted for an amp

Thanx for hint on powered speakers. A combo of amplifi TT + two powered bluetooth speakers might be just great. It would be great to be able to also connect my TV on the same speakers. Mixing on the speakers side sounds tricky indeed.

Re: some ideas wanted for an amp

All kinds of bluetooth enabled powered monitors with mixer control built in. I have a 50 watt single with 50 hours battery life with USB charging built in, plus xlr/1/4" balanced, 1/4" unbalanced, and 3.5mm stereo ins with separate levels for each input and master volume too. 50 watts is pretty small in comparison to some of the others like that offered with dual 12's or 10's and 600 watt output.

Its great for modelers. Also great for amps with speaker sim out or line out and a speaker sim pedal.

Re: some ideas wanted for an amp

Thanx a lot Wormhelmet,
I definitely need a lot of schooling on all those. 50W for me will be more than enough. Smth I dont get is why I don't see any "stereo" (twin speaker - left : right) powered PA systems in the market. All I see is standalone/single speakers. What's the deal? I noticed you said a 50w single, could it be actually twin?
Also can you please explain what is the battery for? I understand the use of a battery in computer hard disks, or UPS systems or medical equipment , but not exactly in PA systems. If power goes out, the party halts, no big deal.
Another question, what does "xlr/1/4" balanced, 1/4" unbalanced " means?
Also when you say "monitors" this is the same as speakers?
Any pointers to actual products? What is the maker/model of the one you have? Is there any chance that there is smth slick for home usage like tower speakers with the aforementioned specs? I would like to use it for parties for the kids, to mix in my guitar pre-amp, or my daughter's mic, etc... nothing too professional, nothing too loud, any hints would be great.

Again, thanx a lot!

My eye fell on this : http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/XPExpress - Samson Expedition Express

Is it possible, you think, to mix bluetooth input from a tablet/phone and lets say mic? or guitar/line in? Or pair this with an identical unit for stereo left/right?

That would work. My 50watt model is the Alesis Transactive Wireless bluetooth monitor. Monitor/speaker interchangeable terms. Monitor is probably the more correct term as "Speaker" does not imply enclosure and Monitor is what you do with the soeaker in an enclosure being fed input from a source.

Don't think you can get stereo out of these with two because it needs the ability to separate left and right channels and send one of those out mono while playing the other mono and be able to pan the two sources.

Mine is slightly bigger using 8" woofer and 1" tweeter.

Battery life of 50 hours is amazing for all kinds of places that do not have an outlet to plug in available. Street performing, camping, outdoor party, or whatever. I can use my ipad running Bias Amp and actually keep it charged off USB charging port, all running off a battery on the unit itself, and jam my guitar stuff on my porch with no xtension cord, or camping for a few days, or setup on a street and rock all day long. Last time I needed it was jamming in a big warehouse with no outlets available close to where I was setup with a drummer. It was loud enough to keep up with drums and I didn't haveto runany power cables for anything.

Re: some ideas wanted for an amp

You are really asking too much of a guitar amp. They are not, and never were designed to do all the things you require. Keep it simple.
Just get yourself a roland cube in whatever size you feel you can fit in your home (the smallest one at 2 watts is actually a lot of fun). Plug in , play and enjoy exploring all the sounds available.
Rolands are cheap as chips, they sound good and they are nice and small. You can spend the rest of your money on upgrading you stereo system or whatever you want for parties etc.

Re: some ideas wanted for an amp

^^
I bought a Microcube several years ago right when I was getting back into playing guitar. I wanted a good sounding low volume amp with some effects options. It exceeded my expectations a 1000 fold. I wouldn't hesitate to run it into a house system direct, as long as I was getting a good monitor mix. I imagine the other Cubes are similarly voiced and capable. I have to believe that the 80 could power a 4x12 cab and sound crushing, though don't quote me on that.

Re: some ideas wanted for an amp

Guys I already have the boss me-25 (through a old solid state Crate 40W) which shares the same technology as the cube, and I love it. I am just wanting something for the home as well. Space is limited, so I though of integrating it all in one. I know of the Line-6 Amplifi , which I find an excellent idea, I was just wandering if I could find smth effectively equivalent which would look like ordinary tower home spakers, without an amp/mixer unit.
I understand about asking too much, tho.
