Some people have extreme views.

Re: Some people have extreme views.

A little brand loyalty is ok, but when it goes overboard, it just becomes silly. I have had strong opinions about gear in the past, and still do to some extent, but I've learned to TRY not to say that something sucks. You can't have a pickup for 2 days, say it sucks and then close the door on it. Most pickups have some quality application. I think Seymour Duncan offers a nice variety of everything from classic to jazzy to rockin to balls-out aggression. However, even if you don't really like Dimarzio humbuckers, they have a great selection of single size humbuckers. I personally prefer most of their single humbuckers to SD SHB's, but that's because they suit my taste in that. I like their humbuckers a lot too.

I'm not saying that I never say something sucks, but if I do, I've given the gear a fair run with different configurations to make sure I hate it. So if the guy hates Dimarzios then that's his problem. He can be a ***** to the brand he thinks will win him more Internet friends, but he won't have the pleasure of selecting from a collection of guitars that include the Dimarzio sound. In fact, some Seymour Duncans pair up extremely well with Dimarzios; like the Full Shred, JB and Jazz.

Most music after the mid 70's sucks. Including punk, new wave, metal of almost all kind, techno dance junk, did I miss anything. Although the Police were a huge cut above everybody else.

I would really rather listen to Louis Armstrong or Hank Williams than to the stuff after 1980.

I hate Bebop too, much rather listen Benny Goodman and other swing styles.

I saw a cartoon movie robots and one of them said it's a mixture of Jazz and Funk, they call it Junk.

By the way if y'all want to learn how to vibrato the right way, listen to Armstrong he had the best ever on a trumpet yet.....LOL.

This is the guy who started the thread. I'm still deciding whether he is a troll or not.

At this level of quality(SD, Dimarzio,Bareknuckle, etc) I think there is no better, just different. It really is about the sound that you're looking for.

Re: Some people have extreme views.

If DMZ pups really sucked, they wouldn't be selling and so many musicians wouldn't have them in their guitars.

To someone who likes speed, handling, sexy looks, and feel, he'll say that Ferrari is great and Jeep sucks big time. But to someone who likes to climb rocks and mountains and get muddy, he'll say that he loves Jeeps and thinks Ferrari sucks as bad as is possible.

One man's garbage is another man's treasure.

Re: Some people have extreme views.

The top 3 guitars on my depth chart have the DMZs put in by the factory.

Re: Some people have extreme views.

sure this is not news, but there are some solid DMZ models. I think some of their neck offerings are better for some of my applications than I've found with SD models. I also like DMT pickups and would like to get around to trying at least one BKP model. to paraphrase Gene $immon$, there's nothing wrong with trying both steak and cheesecake?

Re: Some people have extreme views.

I'm typically not very brand loyal. I will try most anything to see if it is better than what I have. There are only two brands that I've found that I'm so satisfied with that I really don't even consider other companies when it comes to these two products:

-Guitar pickups. 99.999% of the time I'm buying Duncans. I'm not sure I've ever even played a guitar with a DiMarzio in it, let alone buy one for myself. And that's not because I despise DiMarzio, it's just that I am wholly satisfied by Seymour Duncan as a company & rarely even contemplate another brand.

-Season Salt. Season All. Used to be Schillings, but is now Morton. Same package, same name, same formula. There is no substitute.
