Somebody flung a Squier Showmaster HSS at me...

...expecting me to make it all wonderful... :smack: The neck S is 5.5K, middle is 3.8K(!), bridge H is 10.1K; is this really what they intended as a clever idea for an entry level axe? I'll probably let the neck & middle change places, that should make it a little more interesting...

Anybody have any case stories about their Showmaster HSS? P'up changes?

Re: Somebody flung a Squier Showmaster HSS at me...

I'd junk all the pickups and electronics and replace the whole lot.

Re: Somebody flung a Squier Showmaster HSS at me...

One good pickup would be better than three crappy ones.

My friend's kid dropped off this Chinese kit guitar he built. Everything inside was absolute garbage, cheesiest pots I have ever seen. I threw a ton of leftover parts I had from other mods at it and it sounds great, still plays like a Chinese strat copy.

You can only do so much.

The Showmaster is "Crafted in Indonesia", and doesn't sound and feel as cheap as I'd feared. I'm changing the tone control to a mud control, then I'll be looking around for a 'bucker that might complement the basswood body...

3.8k is low, even for Squier - sounds like it may have a short. The 20th Anniversary Squier I have, all it's pickups test solidly in the 5s... I did have to rearrange them to put 'em in order, though.

You might try feeding it a set of GFS's... appropriate quality for a Squier...

GFS or Toneriders should be good in that. Cheap and far from nasty.

Re: Somebody flung a Squier Showmaster HSS at me...

Showmasters are actually pretty sweet guitars in general. But yeah - pickups? Whatever...

Slap a lil 59 in the neck, cool rails middle, and a Custom in the bridge :headbang:

Re: Somebody flung a Squier Showmaster HSS at me...

If you still have it, that thing deserves a DiMarzio Super 3 in the bridge, just like the HM Strats it's modeled after! And by the way, that's a pretty nice Ping manufactured Floyd Rose on there, I believe with a stock brass block.
