Someone check my thinking on here... pickup fit dimensions.

I have a DiMarzio humbucker set that I'd been saving for a project guitar, but after some thought I'd like to go ahead and use them as pickups in my LTD EC1000.

The neck humbucker is regular spaced, and it doesn't have a Gold cover right now, but I plan on installing one to match the look of the guitar. I figure it'll drop in no problem.

The bridge humbucker, however, is F-spaced. I want to be sure that it will fit properly in the mounting ring with the cover on.

The metal-cover EMGs I had in there fit fine and they were 2.75" wide on the edges, with 3.08" being the distance from each hole on the mounting leg.

The DiMarzio website lists different pole spread widths for F-spaced and normal humbuckers, as I suspected, but interestingly enough the baseplate sizes and mounting ear spacing is the same across both; 2.7" wide and 3.1" ear to ear. A quick check with a straightedge on the set I have in my possession confirmed this.

If the covers are as big as the baseplates, I shouldn't have any problems fitting these pickups into the guitar with covers on, correct? I did a quick search of the ESP/LTD forums and didn't come up with any EC1000 owners having any issues with dropping f-spaced pickups into their guitars, but they didn't mention anything about covers.

I just wanna sound off on you guys and see if my thinking that I'll be OK with the fit/spacing is correct here.

Re: Someone check my thinking on here... pickup fit dimensions.

I had a stroke of bad luck when I tried to pop a covered Humbucker from Hell into my Ibanez LP. The cover made it just too big to sit level in the neck spot, so I couldn't use the pickup at all. This was after successfully using an uncovered Jazz and an Air Norton in that same neck spot. I gave up and left the AN.

I don't know if the LTD EC series are very similar or not, but since both are built-for-metal LP style guitars I can't help but express my concern.

You've done the measurements so you'll probably be fine! Good luck

Re: Someone check my thinking on here... pickup fit dimensions.

The stock LTD humbucker surrounds are metric size. The four screw holes at the corners are farther apart than Gibson HPI surrounds. The cut-out width is roughly 2mm narrower end-to-end than that of an SD Trembucker mounting surround. The pickup elevator screw holes are marginally closer together.

EDIT - Just offered up a metric SE Asian HB surround to an uncovered F-spaced DiMarzio Breed. It fits.

My EC has standard gibson sized pickup rings. Check before you assume it won't work.

I emailed DiMarzio asking about cover dimensions, since they're not on the website.
