Someone wants to swap me my Recto for a Stilletto Trident....

Re: Someone wants to swap me my Recto for a Stilletto Trident....

Sorry, can't help here...but are you able to play it beforehand?

Re: Someone wants to swap me my Recto for a Stilletto Trident....

I don't like the Stilettos.... stick with the Recto.

Re: Someone wants to swap me my Recto for a Stilletto Trident....

Dual Rec?

I haven't found a good sound with them as yet. I have had good if not very decent experiences with the Dual Rec.

Everyone is very split on the Stiletto - if anyone has good ideas regarding the Stiletto and how to make it sound good, please share.

As far as the Dual, it has a modern / classic sound and I love the 5U4G.

Re: Someone wants to swap me my Recto for a Stilletto Trident....

i'd laugh and "walk" the other way. keep the recto!!!!

Re: Someone wants to swap me my Recto for a Stilletto Trident....

Oh wow... Stiletto's suck, and the trident was on clearance at GC last month for 950. Horrible amps, that's why Mesa's revamping them.

Keep the Rackto, you seemed to be happy with it before?

You have to know how to set them up... I have it down to a science, and I think I've perfected the Recto tone.

One of the biggest things you can do to help it is run an OD infront.

if they are such bad amps then how do they keep winning all of those awards (from guitar magazines, but still)? i always questioned reviews like that and this makes me question them more.

Re: Someone wants to swap me my Recto for a Stilletto Trident....

Interesting point, yes they DO win awards. Problem is... everyone apparently has the "british" hehem meaning MARSHALL rip off tone that is apparently better than the original, and I feel very few have gotten it right. Perhaps Komet, Bogner, Blockhead, very few have come close or improved.

I really hate having to run a pedal in front. I haven't had great experiences mixing Mesa's with pedals, exc maybe with my Mark 2B.

No matter what anyone says, I have had too many Mesa experiences where you need a manual, tons of tweaking, tube changes, etc to get a great tone. God forbid I should just sit and play and become a good musician. If tweaking is all the amp is for, not my cup of tea. The Dual Rec is one of the few Mesa's that sound good out of the box. Plug and play - I can dig it!

Yeah, but 15 years from now everyone will be saying "The original 500 or so had less gain and different transformers".

From what I can tell they were going more after a modded Plexi kinda thing than the JCM800 thing that everyone expected.

I suspect though that the version 2 will be voiced more like a JCM800.

Re: Someone wants to swap me my Recto for a Stilletto Trident....

Has anyone noticed how many Stilettos are hitting the used market lately?
It must be an amp that people tire of quickly, because I see a lot of them for sale, but rarely see Road Kings for sale. Of course, there's less Road Kings sold new too, but I never see tons of them on the used market, like the Stiletto.

That trade deal is something you need to be sure about by visiting a Mesa dealer and putting the Stiletto through it's paces.

I suspect that part of that is because alot of people jumped on the GC blowout hoping to do a quick flip for more money on EBay.

Yeah, you're right.

I actually want to trade it in for a Recto head....but I was having a moment of gas induced stupidity.

Re: Someone wants to swap me my Recto for a Stilletto Trident....

What advantages does your Recto Recording Preamp have over the actual head?

I would have to agree with GJ, it's always best to find a dealer and try the amp out for yourself, crank it if you can, then decide. I'm surprised to hear that so many people don't like the Stilettos when there have been so many good reviews.

Re: Someone wants to swap me my Recto for a Stilletto Trident....

Stick with the rackto. And if you want stelitto(ish) tones sometime, just pop some el's into your power amp!

Direct recording, a better clean channel, less fizz on the lead channel. I originally got it to use with stereo effects, but I've since moved away from that and switched to using two separate heads. I like the tones I get from blending two different heads rather than two channels of the same thing.

I don't generally buy anything based on reviews.

Either way, I think I'm just going through a bout of bad gas (excuse the pun).....for instance, right now I'm digging up information on Orange AD, OR, and OD heads.....

Re: Someone wants to swap me my Recto for a Stilletto Trident....

I have a crazzzzzzzzzzzzzy idea -

SPEND WAYYYYYYYYYY LESS and get an ACTUAL Metal Face 1959 or JCM800from the 80s - and GASP!!!! actually sound miles better than the rip offs.

NOOOOOOOOO, that's too easy - where's the modding and tube swapping and tweaking and complaining?

Buying a Stiletto over a real Marshall is like buying Johnny Stalker Paisley Label Whiskey or Orange Gander Vodka or oh you get the idea - the real stuff tastes better!

Recto all the way! Mesa got that amp (Dual Rec, triple a'int my thing really) right!

Re: Someone wants to swap me my Recto for a Stilletto Trident....

orange amps are cool, if you want stoner metal go jcm800...

mesa dual recto is the one and only...kinda a staple of the 90s...other mesas like nomads come along and get phased out along the way...

Not interested in Marshall's. Tried 'em, like 'em, no mojo happening.....completely not my thing.

Which reminded me why the Stilletto's such a bad idea. I think I need to avoid guitar shops for a couple of days.

I'll still probably trade it in for a head. I'm thinking Triple for the tighter rhythm sound. I've run out of headroom a couple times on mine when dropping big riffs and that wasn't cool. That, and I'm not worried about saturation as I won't be using a Recto for lead now that I have a MarkIII.

I've said it a million times....Stilettos sound freaking GREAT, but they require more fiddling than any MESA amp I've tried. AND SPEAKERS ARE KEY. If you cannot get it to sound good (at doing what it's supposed to do) then you just aren't tweaking it correctly.

I'll post this again...3rd clip from the top

This is a great modded marshall sound. And I've pulled out similar sounds with it at the shop NOT running V30 loaded MESA cabs (5150 cab was awesome, believe it or not...assume they are sheffields/) With a V30 it's thin, grainy and icepicky (so are regular Marshalls, IMO)

I like Dual Recs too...but I'd rather have a Stiletto (with the right speakers)any day of the week.
