In my neck of the woods, there are two thrift shops and two pawn shops. I stop by each of them 2-3 times a week in hopes of finding a few bargains. I stopped by one late Sunday afternoon and spotted a Ross RGC 65 combo amp. Dirty, filthy, etc.....it was still on the cart, so I had to wait 10 minutes till the gal unloaded it. By that time two other fellas had spotted it, but the gal told them I had first crack. It was $14.00, so I figured what the heck.....if nothing else I could use the speaker.
Got it home, plugged it in and after twisting the sticky pots and dealing with a bad jack, it came to life....IT"S ALIVE!!! I only had 10 minutes or so with it before being called away by my granddaughter to Papa duty, (she is the light if my life and has me wrapped around her little finger) but the darn thing is not too bad. It needs some work, (which I will get to tomorrow) but the clean tones were not too bad. It has a "TUBE BLASTER" switch and dedicated gain knob, built in chorus with rate and depth and a nice Fenderish spring reverb that get's real wet.....
Not much info online and what I did find was not to complimentary, but for $14.00 I don't really care. I'll have some fun with it for a while before giving it away to someone who needs it.
The real ache came today when I swung into my fav pawn shop and spotted a silver face Super Reverb for $699.00. I played it for a half hour or so. The gal I deal with said it just came oout yesterday so she couldn't lower it too much...she said I could have it for $600. If I had hte $, I'd nab it....but it could have been $200 and I still wouldn't have been able to get it. Oh well!
