Sooo....I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex

StrangeSound

GlossesForNothin'
Ordered one for my Engl Screamer combo. I will also let the amp check by a good tech next week, so that the bias trimpot will have a wider range...that thing should sound good again soon.

I will let you guys know how it worked out, kinda excited about it. Never changed a speaker before, curious about the difference.

Re: Sooo....I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex

I was sold on that speaker just from the clips on the Eminence website alone. Its the only one that can do that pristine Fendery sparkle that I heard. Ive heard it can be a real smooth speaker , so take that inot considertain if what you are really after is something with more of a bite and edge to it.

Re: Sooo....I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex

i'm excited. i'm still considering changing the speakers in my amp...so yeah

Re: Sooo....I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex

I need a smooth, balanced speaker. I hope this one is the ticket. I hate Vintage 30's and I got one right now in the Screamer. Some people say that the speaker choice (V30) makes the amp sound worse, of course it's subjective but I tend to agree.

Re: Sooo....I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex

The Cannibas Rex is very smooth and balanced. It'll be stiff for a while. Give it some time to break in.

Re: Sooo....I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex

You know I've been experimenting with some Eminence speakers lately. I took out the Soldano-tweaked Eminence Legend in my Soldano and tried a few different speakers. I have to tell you the Eminence Legend wasn't quite the sound I was looking for at first but after going through various cabs and speakers the Legend has been performing very well across different amps.

It has been fantastic in all the amps I tried, Budda Superdrive 30, Laney TT50, Koch Twintone & Soldano. Other Eminence speakers I used include The Tonker, The Governor, Lil Texas & Private Jack. They are all fantastic.

Budda Phat speakers are actually manufactured by Eminence, but designed by Budda. They can be a little honky. Fantastic speakers though. I'm very interested in finding out what your results are. Please give us a review after you break it in.

Re: Sooo....I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex

I will write my first impressions next week and brake the speaker in with some muzak in the basement.

I'm really looking foward to it and hope that the speaker "delivers" it.

Re: Sooo....I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex

I got the speaker today! Looks very solid, good quality. I will install it next week because the amp has to go to the tech.

Re: Sooo....I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex

I just installed the CR and my first impression is...it kicks serious ass!!!

My Engl doesn't hiss anymore, it was the V30 in it! It's so **** smooth now, I can get real jazzy tones out of my Ibanez RG. It could be a bit too smooth, though but I can get some VH "Panama" brown sound out of it with my Tube Zone. The TZ sounds so much better through it! I'm really blown away and I had the volume on 1 and the bias is very cold (this will be changed soon).

All in all a dark speaker with serious punch and fatness.

Thanks guys for your input, I can recommend the speaker for sure. Although it's not broken in yet I'm curious how it will change through the weeks and months.

Fantastic bro I can't wait to hear some clips.

Re: Sooo....I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex

it will open up a little but it takes a looooong time for the hemp to loosen up. ive had one in my bf deluxe for a few years and i love it. ive tried lots of other speakers including a really expensive celestion gold and the rex is my favorite. even better in my amp than my usual standby the old english made g12h-30.

Re: Sooo....I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex

hemp speaker canabis rex haha ...does the speaker smell like pachouli?????

Re: Sooo....I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex

I really like the sound of that speaker in the clips on the Eminence site. I seriously considered a speaker swap in my amp, but I'd hate to explain that speaker name in my normal venues.

Re: Sooo....I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex

I know absolutely nothing about speakers, but I'd be inclined to buy one of those based strictly on the cool-ass name.

Re: Sooo....I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex

Bumpin' a seriously zombified thread to say that Friday I'm going to order two of these for the Peavey vertical cab I got a few weeks ago.

The speakers it came with are Celestion G12-K85s and they're just a bit too bright and jangly/sizzly to me. They rate out at 99db, so the C-Rex drivers will make the cab a bit louder overall. I'm using it with a little home-made amp head running a 12AX7, 6L6 and 5Y3...maybe 15 watts or so on the peaks.

Next amp purchase will most likely be a Tweaker, but I want the cab to also handle my Music Man amp running on half power (65watts).

Re: Sooo....I ordered a Eminence Cannabis Rex

The C-Rex is a great speaker . . . there's definitely a smooth/bluesy kinda thing that happens with it, but it's still articulate and not muddy. I think you'll be happy with them . . .

I like V30's, but only in 4x12's.
I don't think they sound that good in 1x12's or 2x12's.
