I'm reading all over the board about how great they are but thats all I know about them. Who makes them and what are they like?

The brobucker is a pup made by SD due to the insistance of some of the Bro's. It's IMO a PAF with bigger balls and more output. Someone will confirm that (or deny it).

SD was reluctant to do that and we wanted one without paying Custom Shop prices so a gang got together, placed a large order and there you have it. A pickp designed by the Bro's, hence the Brobucker name.

I wasn't in, I just thought it was a good idea, aside from that I had no involvement so consider this more of a bump till someone comes along with the full story...

That's pretty much right on. A bunch of bros expressed the desire for a hotter (10K) PAF style pickup. The subject became heated and the topic was (for a short while) banned. Admin Scott F then came to the rescue and coordinated a limited run of pickups for the bros. MJ christened the pickup the Brobucker.

10-12k is the forbidden resistance range incidentally. The first rule of the SD forum is don't talk about 10k pups!

10K
wax potted completely
unbalanced, scatterwound
Dunaged A5 Mag

Although . . . 10k is a Screamin' Demon and 12k is a Distortion neck. ;)

One of the best pickups out there.

FWIW, MJ will still make them as a custom shop order if you ask nicely.:D

I was a forum newbie when the discussion took place, and when the offer to go in on the pickup took place, I ordered one with the group.

I'm glad I did, but I just traded in the guitar that held the Brobucker.

On the other hand, I'm having the shop take the Brobucker out, and they'll put back the stock pup as a part of the deal. Now I've got to decide where it will have a new home. One of those Gibson products, I'd wager.

I got a few now. I wish they made more. The EVH/78 and Brobucker are the ones for me currently.

I come think though..what would a Brobucker be like with an A2 magnet in it?

Why is 10k-12k offlimits?

Than I gotten through a forum bro (sorry I have to look up who) a Brobucker neck version: 9,1K iirc. It is in the bridge of my Kramer Baretta..now..if I replace that A5 with an (aged?) A2...would I have another EVH/78?
