Sound hole pickups

I am looking for some help/guidance as regards soundhole pickups. I am currently doing a HNC in electrical engineering and as part of the course i have to do a project. This is all new to me as a 35 year old i have been told what to do and how to do it all my life, where as the project is something i have to just get on and do. Anyway back to soundhole pickups, i have dedcided to do a project based on my guitar. I want to design/develop a passive soundhole pickup for my acoustic guitar. I am reeally struggling where i need to start, although i have done some research based on an electric guitar pickup (yes i know these are pretty much the same). If anyone can point me in the right direction or if they have any info/links that may help i would be very grateful. The sort of things i am looking for are the materials needed to build, specifications and how you can change the tone etc.

Many thanks

Re: Sound hole pickups

A pickup is a coil of thin wire, 42-43 AWG, wrapped around magnetized slugs, or magnetic slugs with a magnet of varying composition, in the range of 4k+ turns. There is a ton of info on pickup building sound. Do a quick search, and you should have all you need to get started.
