sound problem

I've just installed 3 new seymour duncan pups, however the sound of all 3 pups is extremely similar. I only notice a small difference between the 3. Has anyone heard of this before? Could I have a faulty wire somewhere?

Are they all in the same guitar? What are the pickups and the position (bridge/middle/neck)?

There in a 2001 Ibanez S470, the pups are a SH -1 59n, Vintage Staggard (Mid), and SH-5 (Bridge)

You're not hearing a difference between humbuckers and a single? Odd. Is the switch working? :scratchch

The switch seems to be working. When I change b/n pickups, I hear a slightly higher tone for the neck pup, while the bridge position gives me a slightly bassier tone. However going from each switch position, it sounds like one single pickup, just slightly altered,

Assuming by "higher" you mean more treble? Shouldn't the neck pickup be the bassier sounding of the bunch?:scratchch

Are you sure the selector is working right? try tapping on the polepieces of each pickup with a screw driver to determine which one in on. You should be able to hear the tapping through the amp on the active coil(s), and this will help you determine if there's a problem with the wiring. For example, if you can hear it when you tap the screw coil but not the slug coil, it means that the humbucker you're tapping is split.

+1 beat me to it... That's exactly where I was going with that, though...sounds like something wacky is going on there wiring wise...and that would be the 1st step in diagnosing it...

I just tapped on each screw coil and I heard it through every pickup. I'll check the wiring next

Definately a wiring issue.

I have to ask so don't take offense. Do you realize that the color codes are diferent between Ibanez and SD pickups? If you installed red to red it'll bugger everything up.

Yes, I've heard that Ibanez wiring/color code is different.

The wiring diaram I used is in this pup forum on the 3rd page labeled "Need Help", sorry, I couldn't figure out how to paste it to this reply. Could there possibly be a wrong connection w/ the diagram? I previously followed Artie's reply for my old Sey Dun pup installation and they worked great.
