Source of Buzz - My Rug

More ridiculous noise-abatement in my house: So I get ground buzz only when I stand on my area rug barefoot - but not on the carpet around it :smack: Using a Fuhrman power conditioner. Noise goes away when I touch the strings (or step off the rug, or put on shoes.)

  • Is something probably wrong with the grounding of my house?
  • ...Or with the grounding of my amp(s)?
  • ...Or the guitar(s)?

Do you really love that rug? :smokin:

You can test the grounding of the amp easily. Use a multimeter set to lowest resistance reading & test from the ground of your instrument lead connected to the amp & the ground pin of the power cable of the amp disconnected from the wall outlet. If it matches the zero reading then its all good.

Next is the grounding of the house, when was grounding carried out, like 20yrs back? Do all outlets in the house give ground buzz?

If it goes away when you touch the strings, the grounding of the guitar is good. I have had one guitar buzz more if my feet were in the air, would reduce with my barefeet on floor lol
It could be just interference in the environment you are at, the neighbourhood transformer, wifis, old gen cordless phones, cell towers, dimmer switches, shared apartment grounds, random stuff, etc.

I hate ground buzz, my non shielded guitar buzzes so much until i touch a metal part on it. Hope ya ground buzz goes away soon.
