Sovtek 66L6 WXT question.

Are Sovtek 6L6 WXT's mushy in the low end? I saw somewhere a guy didn't like the tone of his amp w/ these in it. I need to know if they are decent tubes as I am considering buying some. I want 6L6's for my JSX but I don't want a farty low end. I can get a quad of the WXT's for $40.00. I was also looking at some JJ's but they are $68.00 for a quad. I play heavy stuff ala Crowbar, Lamb of God, Fear Factory etc... Any input on these tubes would be appreciated. I already searched this forum and found only 1 post on 6L6 WXT's. And yes the JSX does metal VERY well.

Sorry it's supposed to be 6L6 not 66L6

This is the email for Tube Tramp as he is known on many amp forums. Terry, has perhaps the best 'rock' ear that I have ever come across. He sells tubes and matches your tonal wants, with his glass. He has the best prices and far and away the best tone knowledge on the net. I think he could get your amp singing... Terry and EVH grew up together, he penned a couple DLR albums and has worked and played with folks I could only dream of meeting....Terry is ground zero for the LA scene in the 70s. He is a walking history book of all things rock...

Terry has been good to me, taught me more about amps in the couple years I have known him, than I learned in 20 yrs of playing prior to yacking with him..

Feel free to shoot him a note, tell him kevlar3000 sent you... I don't get nothing in return, just helping a friend, but he will get you in to some great sounding tubes....

couldn't tell you.

but if you cant find your tone from 6l6s, you may want to try the sovtek 6550-WD tubes. higher output, more headroom then the 6l6s, and a really aggressive bottom end......but they are about $90 a quad.

Try the 6L6GC-STR from TAD. The mids get a little more presence and the bottom end is good-n-tight. Price isn't too bad either.
