Sovtek Mig-50 or Marshall JCM 600?

these are my choices between heads that im getting. im stuck between the two, ive done my homework on both amps and still cant decide. esentially the 2nd channel on the marshall wont really matter because i mostly use the clean chanel and if i need overdrive/distortion i use a DS-1

i already have an avatar 2x12 cab with celestion vintage 30 and g12h 30 in it (60 w rating)

what do you think?

I've used the JCM 600, but not the Mig. The JCM 600 has Fender Cleans, No Kiddin' !!!!! The JCM 600 is very versatile, has decent reverb, and BOTH a series and parallel fx loop. It's a Cool Amp.

a russian made all tube amp made by Sovtek (now a tube company) in the early to mid 90's. they have one channel with 2 inputs, one input has a bassier tone sort of like a fender bassman type feel, and the hotter inputer has a more early jcm 800 type feel, more high end to it

its the bare essentials in the amp but its REALLY good at what it does

i heard the mig two or three times on concerts one time i was really amazed how good it sounds. It was played with a cheap screwed LP copy and i think some pedal to overdrive but not sure.. but did sound very good... never played one..

Very solid, and can be modded into a serious monster.

My sentiments too. Like a Plexi Marshall 1987 50 watt, the Mig 50 is still pretty much a 59 Bassman amp, crunch producing cathode follower circuit and all! One of the best sounding inexpensive amps you can buy. Tony Bruno "designed" those for Sovtek if I remember correctly. My buddy AJ has one...sounds killer with a DS-1 pushing it. Lew

i guess the JCM was more curiousity. plus ive been bidding on migs for the past 2 weeks (but they keep getting sniped :yell: )

hopefully the current one im bidding on is a winner

I'm running a Mig50 through the same Avatar cab right now (in tandem with my Trem-O-Verb) and I LOOOOOOOOVE it! Then, again, I would never put a DS-1 in front of it in a million years, so we may be looking for entirely different things.

I played a 600 a bit when they were new, and I was pretty impressed with it, vis-a-vis the horrendous other Marshalls that were out at the time (not saying much, in other words), but I like it nowhere near as much as the Mig50.

My band mate has a JTM 60.....basicly a JCM 600.......great freaking amp. tight, punchy, and warm.

i have a stock DS-1 as my main distortion at the moment (with a GE-7 at the end of the chain to give it that extra punch), it sounds killer even through my AVT so i cant wait until i knab a sovtek

I can't give any input into the mig, but I do have the JCM601 and ext cab. It is very versital, great warm tones(especially with JJ 12ax7's). SUPER cleans, not quite as punchy as a 6L6 amp, but very good. Good gain, plus the JeffH tip of jumping the parallel FX loop to get additional gain. Awsome twin channel reverb. I haven't found any pedals that I like in front of this better than just plugging in direct(guitar/cable/amp). And I am playing my Agile DC, C5/Jazz mostly. They are going really cheap on ebay right now. I saw both a head and the 601 combo going for about $260 right now. Going price a couple of months ago was well over $500.
