Sovteks 12AX7LPS for Laney AOR combo

Would these be a good choice? Everywhere I read they would be great, especially for a high gain combo like the AOR, but the actual auction states they could be microphonic... I can get 4 of them for cheap and they're new, and it's exactly what I'd need right now for my Laney.

Other choice would be the JJ ECCC83S/12AX7S...

Advise please?

If you want the most gain, don't go for the JJ's. The Sovtek LPS has a nice smooth gainy tone. The Laney would sound good with them. Also, the Shuguang 9th Generation Chinese 12AX7's, which you see advertised pretty cheap, are another great tube for highgain amps.

Pott,

Mixing brands in the preamp is really the way to go. Get a few of different brands, Sovtek, JJ, EH, and whatever you can afford and plug in play them one at a time. V1 and V2 have the most impact on sound.

There is no recipe in preamp tubes. Just buy some and trust your own ears.

Not sure what you mean here P.

Are you asking if you can have a tube slot without a tube?

Yep. You advised me to plug and play one at a time...

I'd agree. My latest combination is V1: JJ; V2: EH.

He means leave all tubes in the slots, but switch the v1 and v2 positions with a tube you want to test.
