Sparking rectifier tube, again.

So what causes a rectifier tube to go bad so fast?

The amp is a VHT Pittbull 50/CL. This is the second 5u4g to start "sparking", inside the tube, within just a couple months.

The amp can switch from tube rectifier to SS. I have always ran this amp in the SS mode.

The amp is 18 years old. Maybe I should just send it to Steve and company for an overhaul.

Wow, this sucks. I just called all 3 techs that we have in town, and none of them have ever heard of VHT/Fryette amps. 2 of them won't even look it, and the other says he's backed up for 3 months.

What the hell am I supposed to do now?

What brand is your rectifier tube? I had this issue with a Sovtek rectifier in an AC30.

It's an EH 5U4G.
