Speaker break in?

Prayin' to Cheeses
New 1x12 combo, Celestion black shadow 90 watt. The amp seems really bright. I am kind of sensitive to high end. Bright room and it's a Mesa TA-30 so probably brighter sounding, as I expected, but there is a kinda harsh high end at times. Do newer speakers sound brighter? If so, how long to expect to break 'em in?

Re: Speaker break in?

Depends on how loud and how often you play. Could be a week, could be a few months. The MC90 is a stiff speaker, so it will need a beating to smooth out. Just rock the hell out of it!

This.

I have had a couple amps with this speaker. IME they are a bit harsher than most new (like a v30) and take awhile to smooth out. Crank the amp hard and often.

And congrats on the TA30. I loved the 15w I played!

Re: Speaker break in?

Thanks fellas! She gets her first gig tomorrow. The amps I am used to are a 67 princeton reverb with the original Jensen in it, and a 100 watt recto driving an 80's era Marshall cab. So I have not played through new speakers in many moons!
