Speaker change in a carvin 4x12?

Anyone familiar with Carvin's BR 4x12 cab?? I have one of those with their british series speakers and have always been curious if a speaker upgrade to 4 greenbacks (or Private Jacks) would wake it up..??

Re: Speaker change in a carvin 4x12?

Owned a couple over the years and those are nice sounding well built cabs. What is it loaded with now? If they are the Carvin Brits they are made by Eminence and to my ear those are kinda dead and dull sounding speakers.
A set of WGS Retro 30's would kill in a good closed back 4/12. Just traded a 8 ohm G12 30 70th anniversary for a 16 ohm Retro a month or so ago.

I know this is not about your thread, but I just wanted to throw out there that 4 neodymium speakers would save 30 pounds of weight so you could lift the cab easier

Re: Speaker change in a carvin 4x12?

I would suggest either eminence private jacks or weber 1225 ceramics with pre-rola treatment if greenbacks be your thing and I used to have a Carvin BelAir with those carvin speakers (they aren't a bad speaker by any means but you can definitely stand to improve)

I like the Legacy speakers from Weber but these seem to be a mixed bag for people, not sure if I got lucky (but just figured I'd be honest)

If money is no object than look into Scumbacks they are like the holy grail of greenbacks imho these and the webers are tied for best greenback speakers (the 1225 and the legacy are both greenback type speakers offered by weber).
