Speaker Holes not lining up

I have been reading some online reviews
and i watch some guy butcher an amp cab on YouTube

What is the deal with speaker holes not lining up?

They all seem to have holes at the cardinal point
North south east and west
Some even have holes at the in between points
Semi cardinal points

I would think that all 12 inch speakers
Being 12 inches
Would have the holes a certain distance from the center line

Is this not true?

is there that much variation in the standard guitar speaker mount that someone would be inclined to drill new holes?

I can see if the holes are in the semi cardinal points
and rhe speaker has them in the cardinal points
But wouldn't rotation of the speaker solve this ?

Am i missing something?
Are people really just not rotating the speaker
Because the tabs need to face one way or another?

I've experienced where two different 12" speakers had different frame sizes/widths, so the holes didn't quite match up.

I had an Ibanez Tone Blaster 212 combo at one time. I went to upgrade the speakers to celestions and they did not match at all. Totally different circumference.
A-holes!!!

I've swapped Celestion, Eminence, and WGS speakers in and out of the same cabinet without issue.

I have never ran up on the odd size speakers

I've used Celestions, Eminence, and WGS, all fit the same pattern.

If you are using speakers that are clones of each other, I can see them being same no problem. But if you switch brands, like JBL, Pioneer, my results started to vary.

Eminence, Warehouse, Weber, Scumback etc are pretty much Celestion replacements/upgrades/knockoffs

Some brands' OEMs line right up, like Celestion replace Bugera OEM just fine

And then there are some that are just a different design

i could be wrong

But most manufacturers have standardized
Wouldn't we all agree

its good to know that not everyone subscrisubscribes to that

There is no great engineering maxim or rule spelling out dimensions that should not be departed from.
Next you'll be telling me all guitar necks should be exactly the same.
Stop whining about differences and deal with them as needed.
No one said life was supposed to be easy as hell.

No one said life was supposed to be easy as hell.

I don't mind necks being different, but when a neck is on a 25.5"-scale we know that the frets are the exact same spacing.
Speakers can and should be different from one another, but when it's listed as 12" it should be a standardized 12" mounting design IMO.

Most of the folks who make replacement speakers
Do follow a hole spacing. It helps with sales and such
why would they make it more difficult to use their product

I really should have pulled the chassis from that Ibanez Tone Blaster 212 combo I had., and just threw the cab and speakers away. It was so big and clunky that it ended-up on CL for $150.

When running through my V30 212 cab it was a very cool solid-state with a terrific layout and just the right analog bells, like the footswitch lead-boost and mid-shift.

No this was just before they started the built-in ts models.
The TB had a good clean and eq, and a fairly mid-rich high-gain, with the added shift and boost switches they were a great value.

I really believe many ss amps are under-estimated because their stock combo speakers and cabs are just not very good, and certainly not near the best.

The speakers in the ibanez TB sucked. When I first ran it through a recto-212 it was just crazy how much better it sounded.
Missing that amp is why I snagged a couple cheap peavey silver-stripes. The studio-pro 65w and envoy 40w both make good pedal platforms through quality cabs.
