Speaker Ohm Questions

Hi, I just have a few questions that I hope someone here could clear up to for me.

1. Do 16 ohm speakers always measure up to near 16 ohms? Measuring at the jack of my Series/Parralel cab I get a reading around 13.1... Is this normal and safe?

2. Also, I noticed that there is red goop (for lack of a better term) around the outer edge of the spider on my Celestions. Is this indicitive of melted glue or is this just how it's applied. I ran the cab with only three working speakers for maybe 5 hours and was wondering if this is melted voice coil lacquer/glue or something else I should be worired about.

Thanks for your responses

Re: Speaker Ohm Questions

13.1 is about right for 16 ohm speakers, maybe a little low, but not I wouldn't be too concerned. When you measure them with a meter, you are measuring DC resistance, the 16 ohms refers it's AC impedance which is a little higher.

Sorry, can't help you with the goop, but I would guess it is normal.

Yes :) Inductance adds more resistance when AC is applied.
